Seemingly every single week, Mercedes Mone, the reigning AEW TBS Champion, seems to win another wrestling belt. And that’s because she basically IS winning a new belt every single week.

But it's the AEW fans comparing Mone's belt collecting run to Ultimo Dragon's run, which for me is totally stupid. Why? Well I give you a full history lesson of how both Ultimo Dragon and Mercedes Mone acquired their titles, and also how much prestige (if any) these belts actually hold.

The sad part, Doc, is how AEW's ginning up Mone's belt collector gimmick a/la Ultimo Dragon's belt collector gimmick yet Ultimo's had titles that meant something in that time while w/the exception of maybe three, Mone's don't mean squat.

Its cause she has creative control, and I don't care what anyone says....that's literally what's going on. She never loses in AEW and now its trickled into the indies.

Its' a useless gimmick Dead that makes no sense because, unlike for instance Ultimo Dragon (who Romero talked about in his video, a decidedly non-Cornette video mind you) most of Mone's belts are indie belts pretty no one's heard of - and one of them is an interim title (the RoH TV title). By contrast, when Dragon did his gimmick, all but maybe three of his belts were ones people back in the day (a) had heard of them and (b) are still active to this day.

But it also points Dead to a major problem in AEW - Tony Khan doesn't have the balls to exert some creative control over the wrestlers working for him. He just pays them to do fuck-all of whatever they want. Its' a worn-out gimmick by a promotion that's increasingly starting to take on the worst attributes from both WCW (at its' end) and TNA (during Dixie Carter's reign of idiocy).

The sad part is that Mone's the third-biggest woman in AEW's women's division, which makes it even more dumber. But hey, I'm a solid Cornette man so what do I know about modern wrestling?
