Because too many people conflate words with actions and are afraid to speak what's on their mind because they're afraid to offend somebody. We've let microaggressions (whatever they are) and political correctness dictate what we say and do.

I do agree with that but it is true that hate speech can lead to violence. I suppose there should be a balance of being able to say whatever you want but avoid being cruel to others.
