israel is now pounding gaza with heavy ordinance. hamas rocketeers have hit ben gurion airport. i don't know the status of the american, russian and chinese navies or egyptian armor in the sinai, but during operation pillar of cloud, the americans and russians were playing tag in the med and persian gulf, the chinese were steaming to it and the egyptians were massed on the border.

if you aren't an atheist, i think the best thing all of us can be doing is pray for divine intervention. billions will die if this spreads. the next best thing we can do is light up the phones and email of our elected officials and the state department.

the global readiness state seems to be nothing like it was in november 2012 for operation pillar of cloud. the superpower navies are not growling at each other , for one. in 2012, the russians and the americans were getting all up in each other's faces with a big chinese task force steaming toward them. there was at least one ramming that i recall. i haven't been able to find anything indicating similar today. the pentagon had our forces up to at least DEFCON 3, maybe 4 at this point during pillar

the egyptians had their armor massed on the border but the morsi government was overthrown and the current government has been cooperating with the FUKUS bloc (as opposed to BRICS) and i've seen no reports of them doing anything but clamping down on the tunnels.
