How good at you ae writing rules? Do you go into detail, or do you just do basics to the point where your members will get the message clearer? Here are Chatting Time's rules: http://www.chattingtime.com/viewtopic.php?f=4&t=130 When I had the old Chatting Time, there was a guide to writing a good set of rules that Fergal gave us, and I found those helpful that time around and I thought I'd use that guide again. I went a little overboard and put in my own personal FAQ about Chatting Time as well. So, are your rules complex and totally detailed or are they easy enough for guests and members to understand?

On my humble little forum I tried to have the rule that you had to post a joke to post an advert. Not much luck with that;(

Many forums don't enforce their rulz. But doing what others do can get you in E-trouble. Like the harley forum where I posted an advert prematurely. Quite a few had just posted in the advert section. Aparently the mods didn't check advert section unless you also post in intro. Guess I should have deleted my advert after reading that 10 post were required. Posted the advert on post number 4.

I did chicken out of joining MySpace cuz I read the TOS. But uselly I don't read the TOS.

My user name Incognitonot was born cuz I read not to use a promotional name. Though I'm not the only incognitonot;) Perhaps one day that will make me a tad incognito;)

I don't really care for that rule at all. That doesn't sound very reasonable, to have to post a joke so you can post an advert. I'd never have an advertisement rule like that because I know not many people are good at telling jokes, nor do many know very many good ones, and even if they did come up with a joke, it's most likely to be something that we've all heard of before. e.g.: Why did the chicken cross the road? for example I think having x amount of posts to prevent spam is more than enough.

Are you poking fun at my why did the MLMer cross the road joke? S/he heard there was a downline on the other side.

I also permitted a recipie as well though I think only one person other then myself ever posted a recipie(sp?). The number one rule I had was to have fun;) Due to lack of traffic even I don't visit my forum much. Probably should go and see if there is any non spam there;)

Posting a recipe would be kind of fun. Going online and looking up a recipe and perhaps posting a link to such a recipe or something, or really letting members go nuts with their imagination and making their own recipes. That sounds like that would make a very good contest.

Razmufin(sp) potaoe soup recipie saved me when I couldn't find mine. I started the tread with so easy a guy can do it and the recipie was for pesto pasta. Basically you boil it. cool it and then add the pesto. And cool it some more. This is the pesto recipie not the patoe soup recipie

I don't write forum rules but I think the rules should be short, concise, and simple to understand.
