2012

Its nothing more than the end of an ancient calendar. Even Mayans that live today say thats all it is. Why are people so obsessed with their own doom?

So, just because they didn't make a infinite calender that means It's the end of the world? :-/

I would not say that. There has been over 200+ dated end time predictions since 46 AD and not a single one as came to pass...the religious right not to be out done by the 2012 hype as predicted May 21, 2011 as the day we all die.

People like to know in order to prevent it or live better lives... or to live worse lives.

Some of the 2012 doomsayers have now revised their dates forward, most settling on one or another year in the 2020's and up. A few have recalculated things to 2013 or 15.... or so. Subject to change, of course.

Gives them more time to get on TV and sell books.

I heard in 2013 something is going to happen that will cause all electronic devices to be destroyed a sun flare will cause that.

The most interesting thing about it is that around 1800 it has happened to.

2012 is just going to be another year... enough said. These daft people and their illogical theories think the world will end because the Mayan calendar ends that year (and I think someone else may have said that already).

OK. I'll stir the pot.

Let's just say, the alarmists are right. And somewhere around May or June, the scientific community confirms it. And then the news leaks and is the banner headline on the front of the USA Today and ever other paper in the land: Before the end of the year, the sun is going to explode.

Then what?

I don't see where 'we' can do a lot about it.

I personally think the end they speak of isn't the literal end of the world but the end of things as they are today. A major change that would signal a new beginning and the end of the world as we know it today. What exactly do the Mayans have to gain from making such a prediction that was far beyond the time they would have existed? This is what makes it different from all the rest as the people who made predictions of an end were people who picked dates where they would benefit from it.

I agree with Bluezone. I believe a lot of it is over-exaggeration that is grossly misinterpreted from the Maya system. The Maya were methodical and mysterious nonetheless but they were not prophets of doom. I hope it's not like Y2K where a simple misunderstanding or issue escalates into a global crisis.

Anyways the world as I know it ends when I die.

I could get into a car accident tomorrow and that will be my doomsday.

I don't think it's going to end any time soon to be honest...

I think it's time for the Mayans to change their calendar.

We get a new one every year, why can't they get a new one every few hundred?
