Bad Moderators

Yep, that's kind of how I look at it, too.

You put in most of the work on your forum. Toxic members can ruin a forum but a toxic moderator can ruin your reputation in the niche.

No one wants that.
Absolutely true, you've got to be so, so careful who you let represent the forum, especially if it's a niche that's difficult to work in. Toxic members can be dealt with, but yeah, the damage a toxic staff member can do is amazing!

Back in zetaboards days I had a co admin who I had some blazing rows with. One thing he wanted to do was log PM’s.. Absolutely NOT. Eventually he was demoted. Haven't seen him about for over 2 years now.

Yeah, that's a big no. Private Messages, it's there in the name, private

Mods who ban outright are considered bad IMO. I think a lot of forums and even websites have been adopting a less strict rules policy anymore. I have seen it become more common place not to outright ban somebody.

I have had a situation where somebody wanted to take over my group on a roleplay chat I paid for. I caved and gave it to them as it didn't cost that much iirc. Plus, I got tired of the site afterwards and think it is dead anyway. I made the first...uh...lewd and NSFW roleplay group on the place. The site's owner even PM'd me and thanked me for doing that since so many were complaining about a lack of one.

This was the 2010s era of the web, so different times.

Indeed. Anyone who feels the need to read PM's sounds like a control freak. I never discuss anything too important or juicy on other forums, I'll give someone my email address and ask them to continue the conversation there if need be.

I really only ban spammers anymore or someone who is being racist or something horrible like that.

I've always hated banning people, aside from spammers and the really bad trolls.

I sometimes get warned on forums for posting too much. I think that is bad practice, especially in these times.

Same, keep it away from public spaces!

How dare you provide activity to a forum! That's just an outrage!!

I have been warned one time on a forum for "talking about myself too much". The admin warned me and I left shortly after.
That's ludicrous! We invariably share our experiences in the course of normal discussion, that means you sort of have to include yourself in your posts...what an idiotic thing to warn for!

Yep, anytime I get told I post too much or something like that, it's my cue to leave.

I quietly leave. I don't say good bye. Don't want to waste a post on a wasted community.

I always test the waters too. I've been a member for a long time apparently lol but when I returned the other day, I posted a bunch to see if it would be an issue.

Happy that it wasn't.

I look forward to being an active member here :)

Love the atmosphere!

I'd never see someone posting "too much" as an issue, quite the opposite, I love it! I'd be posting right along with them! Well...I pretty much do that here, lol.

The atmosphere here is incredible, one of the most inviting, fun communities I've been a part of for a long, long time!

I like that this thread is becoming about getting banned unjustly while I sit here and break rules everywhere ever.

Apparently not myself.

Have to write a dissertation, I guess. Nothing but objective facts, sourced and ordered.

Or....

Peace Out Goodbye GIF by NETFLIX

At least that would be me if someone told me what I can and cannot talk about on a forum. If they state you cannot talk about yourself in the rules thats fair game but I am not a fan of when admins make up things as they go along. Control freaks turn me off.

Agreed, let it flow, have fun, use common sense and your community will be fine, but start barking orders at everyone and regulating every little detail...that's where trouble starts.

Then those admins sit around wondering where everyone went when their community is dead.
