Bad Moderators

I had someone I considered a trustworthy person as my co-admin at one point, they hijacked the site, banned my account and deactivated the forum until I paid them $1,000 for "graphics work" he'd done, which consisted of downloading the vB2 graphics kit that they used to have in the members area, changing the background colour of a few buttons and re-uploading them. Fortunately I knew how to get back into my database, change mine and his account roles, sign back in and IP ban him. That taught me to be more careful about who I pick as staff, but when you find out someone isn't who you thought they were, you definitely have to move to sort the situation ASAP. Letting it linger leads to problems.
How dare they do that to you! I will fight them! :P

If I got a nasty moderator I would demote them immediately and use the discourage and let them enjoy themselves.

I encountered a bad admin once. When I was somewhat new to owning a forum, I made a gaming forum on Proboards. I had promoted one of my members to co admin. She went behind my back and deleted my themes and installed ones that weren't even related to gaming. I banned her and she complained on Proboards support forums. xD The staff there told her that there was nothing they could do.

I do admit when I was younger I was helping someone with their forum and they really pissed me off and I had access to their cPanel so I deleted the database

You haven't yet.

I think just demoting them is all you need to do. :P The discourage feature on XenForo is a very odd thing they implemented on this software. I think its a tad immature to fuck with problem members like that. I try to talk it out, then maybe moderator approval on their posts, then ban them if we need to.

How weird, you promoted her to help you maintain the forum not to erase your hard work and take over the place.

Lets hope nobody does that to you one day. #Karma
Keep regular backups just in case.

I never had moderators, it was just myself. Of course my group was smaller but the title of this thread is exactly why I didn't have moderators. I've seen forums that have promoted such individuals and the drama has never been so high.
