Chances of New Hosting Company's succeeding?

In today's market, Hosting Company's are by far not few and far between. It is a very popular things to start but it seems that newer company's have gained a bad rep which has caused newer hosts to not be able to take off.

So I am looking for general opinions on this and even possible debate.

A new company can make it, if they come into the market with a decent product, good customer service, and cheaper prices.

The problem is that the existing companies can always cut their prices with special deals with their existing customers to keep them from bailing, even though the company's service sucks and there is nothing in their current package that is unique as a reason to stay.

In fact. If a new host offered something worthwhile, I'd move all five of our websites at the drop of a hat because my current host, which used to have outstanding customer service and good prices, recently merged with another host, and since then, the user control panel has been made essentially unusable, and their support to deal with the idiot thing is non-existent. AND, their prices have gone up.
