Everything is public but if I want to go to private hospital or anything (Quicker to go private) I need insurance. They won't accept me anywhere for insurance due to suicidal attempts a few years ago and because I'm diabetic.Oh no? I thought NZ had socialized medicine, so everyone was covered. Did they privatize?

Yeah, I've run into that situation before, as well. Pre-existing conditions will get you every time, sadly.Everything is public but if I want to go to private hospital or anything (Quicker to go private) I need insurance. I have to wait so many more years to be covered on the basis of the suicide attempts. There are providers who can cover for the diabetes if I pay high premiums.Yeah, I've run into that situation before, as well. Pre-existing conditions will get you every time, sadly.
Sounds like New Zealand needs to catch up on mental health standards, I've had a few suicide attempts and it's the diabetes that gets me screened more often than notI have to wait so many more years to be covered on the basis of the suicide attempts. They are getting better. It does suck that the health minister (Government) of this country doesn't take mental health seriously enough though.Sounds like New Zealand needs to catch up on mental health standards, I've had a few suicide attempts and it's the diabetes that gets me screened more often than not
Yeah, that needs to change! Mental health issues are serious and need serious consideration. They are getting better. It does suck that the health minister (Government) of this country doesn't take mental health seriously enough though.
So many people have said this country needs a separate mental health minister so it's separated but our prime minister is useless.Yeah, that needs to change! Mental health issues are serious and need serious consideration.
Here's hoping one day that will happen, because someone needs to take mental health issues seriously! It's definitely not fantastic here, particularly for LGBTQ+ people, but it's alright. So many people have said this country needs a separate mental health minister so it's separated but our prime minister is useless.
The US? Those shootings in the gay nightclubs are real scary. I hear about those in the news. Here's hoping one day that will happen, because someone needs to take mental health issues seriously! It's definitely not fantastic here, particularly for LGBTQ+ people, but it's alright.
Yeah, there are some states or areas within certain states that are great for the LGBTQ+ community, but there are a lot of places that you just do not want to be if you're anything other than straight. The US? Those shootings in the gay nightclubs are real scary. I hear about those in the news.
One day we'll live in a world where that isn't the case. It's no where near as bad here but people do get beaten up and end up in hospital on occasion if they're LGBT.
