Norwegian AND Sami?! Norwegian (I'm assuming this person was Norwegian?) and Swedish I could understand, they're very similar languages, but Sami is vastly different, depending on which dialect of Sami she was writing in. Wow!! Impressive! Definitely a smart person there, and English, as well! Lots to keep on top of, she's right to be angry about all of the work she had to do, but also massive kudos on the Nightwish pickThis was such a nice find... This person was ambitious, smart and a little dramatic.

I hope she realized her dreams.
That's some Elite commentary there, friend. I hadn't picked up on that.Norwegian AND Sami?! I'm a total nerd, lol, lot of respect for the Norse people, even though I can't speak a word of any of their languages, lol. Spent six months in Finland as a child and loved it, it sort of started a strong affinity for that region in me and it's never died off, even if I never really followed through on it. Maybe one day! That's some Elite commentary there, friend. I hadn't picked up on that.
And yes, she was Norwegian.
Cool! I love Finland, too. I taught English to a girl from Oolu some years ago and she taught me some of her language as thanksI'm a total nerd, lol, lot of respect for the Norse people, even though I can't speak a word of any of their languages, lol. Aww, nice!! It's such a hard language to learn, lol. I've tried before and outside of a few basics I just stumble over things, lol. I did master Kiitos! lolCool! I love Finland, too. I taught English to a girl from Oolu some years ago and she taught me some of her language as thanks![]()
I made it a little further than that... And we got in-jokes, but I couldn't pronounce a word XDAww, nice!! It's such a hard language to learn, lol. I've tried before and outside of a few basics I just stumble over things, lol. I did master Kiitos! lol![]()
Totally understand that, it's a challenging language! But good that you learned some of it and awesome that you were the one teaching her English while she was thereI made it a little further than that... And we got in-jokes, but I couldn't pronounce a word XD
I just knew what it was like being unable to speak the most universal language. She was very committed and a diligent student, too.Totally understand that, it's a challenging language! That's half the battle right there, wanting to learn! English is a pain in the ass to learn because we butcher it so badly with slang and colloquialisms and nonsense! I give anyone credit that manages to learn it to any level of proficiency, because it's HARD!I just knew what it was like being unable to speak the most universal language. Yeah... She had a particularly hard time with stuff like "imma", "ain't" "gonna" and "gotta". Most of that junk has no direct translation to any other language. That's half the battle right there, wanting to learn! Absolutely! Then you've got all the words that sound alike but aren't -- their, there, they're, etc. Gotta' be a pain to learn!!Yeah... She had a particularly hard time with stuff like "imma", "ain't" "gonna" and "gotta". Most of that junk has no direct translation to any other language.
At least it ain't German... I tried to show off my skill by saying "after" once... XDAbsolutely! Then you've got all the words that sound alike but aren't -- their, there, they're, etc. Gotta' be a pain to learn!!
German's a unique language, for sure!At least it ain't German... I tried to show off my skill by saying "after" once... XD
Oh absolutely!! Music was the backbone of so many blogs and forums back then, it was fantasticOne thing I have come to really appreciate is the absolutely mind-boggling amount of songs you can find out about through the WA, especially considering that forums and blogs used to allow for playlist plugins and be absolutely filled to the brim with song-related games and activities.
Definitely been down that path. Also been told that I made the owner of a forum uncomfortable on their own forum because I'm trans and they couldn't express their anti-trans views without "risking offending" me, so I had to leave a forum I cared about because of that. Forums come in all shapes and sizes, and sadly so do the people who occupy them.Maaan... I found out that I had two unread PMs from 2019 on a forum that's now completely deserted and might be going the way of the dodo soon.
It's both sad and frustrating.
Ugh! Seriously? Why?Definitely been down that path.
