Election 14

How can a BLACK REPUBLICAN win an election for the US Senate in SC?

Amazing.

It's not the first-time he's won in the Palmetto State, Doc...a few years back, when he was running for the 1st Dstrict seat, he beat Strom Thurmond's grandson for the GOP nomination. Let that one simmer in your mind for a moment or two.

If I were advising the GOP - and thank God I'm not - I'd be saying to them, "Get him into minority communities at every opportunity, let him talk to them, show them that you can be black & conservative...".

Huffington Post: Obama To Jump-Start Lame Duck Agenda Starting Wednesday
Excerpt..
President Barack Obama has asked congressional leaders from both chambers to come to the White House this Friday for a meeting, a White House aide confirmed to The Huffington Post.

The meeting will mark the informal launch of the lame duck period, during which the president will be pushing some of the most critical parts of his agenda in hopes of sneaking them through Congress before Republicans potentially take control of the Senate.

The aide declined to detail what items are on the lame duck agenda, though one could guess that getting judicial nominees and ambassadors confirmed is a high priority. What the aide did note is that White House Chief of Staff Denis McDonough “has been running a process to prepare for the lame duck.”

As for the larger post-election agenda (the one that will extend beyond the lame duck period), the president is expected to look at corporate tax reform to pay for infrastructure repairs and to call for Ebola funding and cybersecurity measures. The aide said there will be a continued focus on the minimum wage, both pushing for an increase in the federal standard and working on the state level in a piecemeal fashion.

And have other blacks, and white liberals, throw Oreo cookies at him?

It wouldn't be surprise me if they did...hell, I'd probably throw some at 'em as well. That said, playing devil's advocate here, Doc, I'd still get him out in front of the crowds.

*looks at current election results* In other news, its' going to be a nailbiter here in the Old North State...less than 10k in votes separating Hagan from Tillis.

Little bit of political trivia here....w/his loss tonight to Jeanne Shaheen in the NH-SEN race, Scott Brown became the first person to not only lose two consecutive Senate elections, but to lose both to them to women.

There's some blowouts, and a LOT of close races further down the ticket.

Florida Gov is within spitting distance.

Louisiana will have a runoff.

And the polls out west are just now closing.

Looking at Florida, I won't be surprised if Gov. Dracula pulls that one out....Kansas keeps bouncing back-and-forth; so does North Carolina. Virginia's a big shocker atm, Doc; did anyone have Ed Gillespie on anyone's radar as a potential victor there?

Let me add this, Doc: if Kay Hagan loses NC (and likewise, Mark Warner in VA), there will be blood in Democratic circles over the next 2 years going into 2016. Hagan, for her part, has run about as perfect a campaign as any Democratic incumbent could've run and she could still lose. If that happens...I don't even want to begin predicting what 2016 will look like, even this far out.:shock::shock:

Tillis has built up some steam in NC, with over 80% in.

If you listen close, you can hear Harry Reid deflating.

No kdding, Doc...here's another shock: Cory Gardner just won Colorado for the Republicans. Mitch McConnell's going to be Majority Leader after all. :(

As for Reid....don't be surprised if Republicans make him a big target in 2016.

Five GOP Pickups thus far in the Senate...
-Arkansas: Tom Cotton def. Mark Pryor
-Colorado: Cory Gardner def. Mark Udall
-Montana: Steve Daines wins open seat
-South Dakota: Mike Rounds wins open seat
-West Virginia: Shelly Moore Capito wins open seat
...one more and the Senate's red in 2015... :faint:

Huffington Post: Gardner Defeats Udall In Colorado Senate Race
Excerpt...
Rep. Cory Gardner (R-Colo.) on Tuesday defeated incumbent Sen. Mark Udall (D-Colo.) in one of the country's most competitive Senate contests, the Associated Press reports.

Udall, first elected to the Senate in 2008, had been considered one of the most vulnerable Democratic incumbents, dragged down by his attacks on Gardner and by President Barack Obama's unpopularity in the state. Udall's campaign attempted to paint Gardner as inhospitable to abortion and contraceptive access. But Gardner said he supported making birth control available over the counter, and disavowed his previous support for a fetal personhood law.

Colorado just became a major battleground in 2016.

Nah.

They'll all be high, just pass out BBQ corn chips at the campaign rally and you'll have it made.

That might be how Cory Gardner won tonight agst. Mark Udall...either that or the Udall name doesn't carry any more power in Western politics...:ohmy:

*looks around* Want to bet Liberty's laughing his rear off at the election results tonight?

Scott Walker won his third statewide race in four years....want to bet, Doc, he's going to get some serious consideration as a 2016 candidate?

We had our voting in October. We only ended up having the idiot once again who has recently taken away the law in which people got paid for having their lunch break. They're also selling assets to overseas companies etc.

Politics is a joke. They say they will do this and that ONLY to get a vote.

...here's a little bit of history for those of us in the LGBT community:
Excerpt...
Massachusetts voters elected Democrat Maura Healey attorney general on Tuesday. She is the first openly gay attorney general in the country.

EMILY's List, a progressive PAC that supports pro-choice Democratic women, helped Healey win a competitive primary earlier this year and celebrated her historic win Tuesday night.

“Tonight, voters in Massachusetts decisively chose to elect progressive champion Maura Healey Attorney General,” said the group's president, Stephanie Schriock. “Maura has spent years fighting to expand rights and freedoms for women and families in Massachusetts. And now with the help of the EMILY’s List community – three million members strong – she can take that leadership to the next level. There is huge momentum for women’s leadership in New England, and that’s a trend that is here to stay.”(Huffington Post)

Walker might make the jump. It's been done before, a no-name "young stud" comes on the scene and makes it big.

And then destroys his party.

Sure.

Have you checked the numbers in NC or VA lately?

Not as close as it was, seriously leaning right down to single digit percentage of precincts left to count.
