Forum Drama

Ignore it.

If someone says something stupid or provocative, if there's no response, there's no drama.

I handle it on a case by case basis. Usually most things can be talked out.

I do feel while you can help to alleviate it, it can destroy a forum. I have been a part of tons of forums where the staff and members just didn't get along. Then on top of all of that, you would get staff who are newly promoted who would get on power trips and cause even more drama, or even admins who would cause it just as bad.

It's a forum killer.

I had to deal with it once on my most active forum. It didn't come from other staff, just a bunch of new members who decided to join my forum since there was drama going on in the Mighty No. 9 community at the time. (Gamer gate was going on... I still don't 100% understand it myself, I just remember lots of people hating on this one woman who was working on the game and they chose my fan forum to come to and complain.)

Bring it on! :p

True. And atop of that, forum staff are (usually) unpaid volunteers who donate their time to help run the forum. I believe that warrants at least some respect and a big THANK YOU. :)

In almost every forum I was a part of, there's drama everywhere.

Agreed on both comments.

Sadly been a part of it when younger! I've learned to not cause or join in drama as I got older and matured. I nowadays ignore it. It is not worth replying to the people IMO.

I dislike it because it creates an awkward feeling for everyone else on a forum who isn't involved or doesn't want to be.

I also recall a forum on the ZetaBoards network basically existing solely for drama and got so notorious Brandon (the owner of ZB) outright banned it from continuing to exist on the network and I believe even off the network too if it was trying to keep any attachment to ZB. XD

Well sometimes a little drama does get people more active.
That's definitely true. I think that was one reason InvisionFree Skin Zone back in the day was like the most active InisionFree forum because it had so much drama.

I'm personally not a big fan of drama myself, I prefer peace.

I remember that forum! Yeah peace is good, we have enough stress IRL to deal with.

Regrettably, I’ve been the cause of forum drama in the past, when I was younger.. I hated being the villain, but I loved the attention. Reflecting back on it, it was probably due to the lack of attention I was getting in my day-to-day life. I’m not too fond of drama anymore, especially in the work place, so I guess this is to new beginnings!

Glad you learned from your mistakes and became a better person because of it! Most people just continue being an asshole their whole lives.

That’s the thing, I’m a “good” person in my day-to-day life. I think the fact that I could be someone totally anonymous online brought out the darker side of my psyche. Everyone has a dark side to them and the internet is a great way to let it loose without any repercussions. That’s where all those brave internet trolls come from. I was young and dumb.
