Freedom of speech?

A democracy doesn’t exist in England, our votes don’t count for sh*t and no matter what we ask the government for or what they get in office for they never do, the country need to be abolished.
If you makes you feel better, where I live is extremely screwed up too!

There's two sides to Freedom of Speech.

1. FOS with your government. Everything you say, excluding threats, should be allowed and covered by FOS. If you hate X president and their policies, you have every right to voice it.

2. FOS online. I've been on the internet for a while and have been an admin/moderator for various sitesl it is laughable how many people try to claim they are protected under Freedom of Speech and cannot be muted, banned or punished in any way shape or form. As someone else said, yes, you have FOS, but on the internet, you are subject to be punished for what you say. Doesn't matter if it's right or wrong, abusive staff or warranted, your right doesn't protect you here. You are a guest on the platform that you're typing on. Follow the rules or leave.

In real life? Oh yeah you did mention that you live in a small town. Lots of conservatives around you?

Yes in real life. Not everyone Christian I've talked to is a complete ass. But still, I'm starting to keep my opinions to myself about how I feel about their religion when they openly proselytize. Because one of the Christians that I debated with resorted to making Argumentum Ad Baculum / Ad Hominem remarks. Saying that anyone who doesn't believe in their god is immoral and deserves to die because they're with the "devil". Some religious idiots are just fucking nuts. They can't and wont be challenged on their beliefs. He also went on to say that if he himself knew it as a fact that his sky father wasn't real, he'd go murder his neighbor, rob a bank, and live it up. They're that close minded about it. But it's okay for them to bring it up and say "god bless you" and "it's god's will" and all of this religious bullshit they float around. If they want to believe in fairy tales, they need to realize not everyone shares those beliefs and that those people aren't evil. But hey, cults like to teach people that anyone who doesn't believe in their man made sky daddy is public enemy number 1. They have that cult mentality. If you're not with the herd, you're against the herd.

Is freedom of speech always necessary in society? How do you feel about governments censoring us and enforcing legal punishments for not complying?
I think 'cops' on the whole deserve much respect & do an awesome job.
That said, I never thought that it was quite right for it to be okay for a cop to suck a subject into a confession with deceit and lies yet illegal for a private citizen to lie to a cop.

Yes everyone is the right to have freedom of speech, yet gotta be carefully the way you say it and come out with it :) Just have to be extra careful too not to poop others off about things regards whatever topic you are on. It's not just saying it, it's how you say it and using the right words and speech.

I just keep things to myself and not say anything

Most Christians I've met are taught to treat everyone with respect, love and compassion. The people you described are being bad Christians by treating non-believers in such a way.

I agree.

Everyone is free to say what they want but others are free to REACT however they want.
Freedom of speech...reads as Mickey Mouse Freedom.
What do you mean by that?

It doesn't matter I suppose. They're all going to the same place I'm going when I die. The cemetery. They're family & friends will pick their plot. That's reality. I just realized it before they ever did.

Actually not even that is really true either. The options you have with dealing with a deceased loved one are ranged out far more then one might think. If you can imagine it, someone else is either doing it or tried to do it. Even the idea of inevitably ending up in a cemetery isn't even true either as you can be cremated and from there the final resting place of one's ashes is rather varied as well.

As for the idea of free speech, I am not opposed to it even in a forum setting where I am not obligated to give it. The way I see it if I suppress speech, that only says I have no confidence in my belief and must suppress opposing beliefs on the matter in question. If I am truly confident in what i believe, I should be for free speech. It doesn't mean I am right on everything but I am not afraid to be wrong, face it and change course. It only benefits me to be confronted with my errors rather then evading them.

Some might go along with the idea of what about if someone insults you, you going to suppress that, right? The answer to that is no as well. I have to value your opinion before it could even bother me and until I have a reason to value it then I don't.

If you speak against the set norms of society, there will be no freedom of speech and you will be booked by the law.

I'm assuming you don't live in the US, as this is incorrect. You can say whatever you want, as long as it's not a threat, and it's covered by Freedom of Speech. You can't be arrested for it.

Thats what I was going to say. Its crazy how in other countries you can be locked up just for talking.

In my country, it's not important what was said, but who said it. Two people of different social status can utter the exact same words, but one will be punished for it, the other one will not.

What do you mean by social status? Income level?
