I'm a bit concerned about the blatant hatred shown for anyone who doesn't accept homosexuality. This is NOT a phobia, for Christ's sake, this is an OPINION. And everyone is entitled to their opinion if it is PC or not, whether you like it or not.

Hello, Smooth, nice to meet you and read your post. I realize (from board to board over the years) that this is a subject that gets people riled up. However, I think it's important for everyone who wants to express an opinion to be free to do so. I'm happy to see that most of the opinions expressed here are in a more mild manner.



My view most closely resembles your reply and the person who said they can understand why some parents would have a problem sending their young boys to a scout leader who is gay. My opinion of homosexuality is based on my gut instinct, belief that it's a choice, and my religious beliefs as well. I think it's wrong and deviant behavior. My opinion doesn't mean I hate anyone or am scared of anyone, it's simply that - my view.



The question about whether gays are also pedophiles is a big one because both gay and straight people sexually abuse children. However, when a gay group started NAMBLA, it more closely tied gays to pedophiles since I don't know of any straight organization that openly goes after young boys the way that NAMBLA does. Horrible.

It seems like everyone in the BSA are homophobes since they wanted him out of there otherwise they wouldn't have.

It has been tested that well educated people are more tolerant and acceptant of others and their differences...

I understand why parents would not want this. It's being paranoid.



As someone who has a severe case of GAD I understand, it's the fear of what might happen. Not neccessarily what would.



I lived in a trailer park as a child. All the kids would run throughout the entire park playing and having fun. However my sister and I were not allowed to leave our yard because my father would say You never know what might happen.



There was a place called the sand dunes not far from our house. In fact just a road or two over. The kids played there constantly, and we lived there for years having never seen it. Two days before we moved from there our father took us to see it. We stayed there less than five minutes and went home.



Paranoia, is what it is. For some it probably is homophobia...but it could also be blatant discrimination. We will never know unless we can get inside the parents heads and figure it out.



He's Just helping though, I don't see a problem.



If I had a son or daughter would I allow them to be alone with him? No. Though that extends to all strangers. My paranoia (which I probably got from my father and how I was raised) would not allow me to do so. If I got to sit down with him, talk with him over a period of time, then we'd have to see...



Though I see no reason why he shouldn't help/wear the shirt etc.



To sum up I think it's VERY wrong that they singled the father out like that, and he should be allowed to help, as so few parents even want to help when their kids have activities so good for him!
