As children get older is it better to place more restrictions on them or less? Are more restrictions likely to backfire and the child become rebellious? What works best?

Ode to be a perfect parent. :confused2:

I was never strict or harsh on my kid and she turned out to be a great person. She's never done anything too bad. I think one time in middle school she got caught stealing some pencils at school but thats about it.

You're a lucky guy! (y) and congratulations for figuring out the secret of the ages.:D

We're kind of strict. We enforce the curfew. We don't accept bad grades. We don't accept bullying. We expect respect.

Or grounding is the result.

When I was a child, spanking was the form of punishment used. I don't feel like it needs to be used at all anymore, personally.

Get them a smartphone, let them get hooked up on it, and then take it away for a day - they'll listen and change after that.

You don't have to be strict anymore. You just need to be present.

I didn’t know you had kids. Are they well behaved for the most part?

Stepkid. No biological ones.

She is very well-behaved. I'm super proud of her. But she is independent, makes her own choices, and stands up to anything who tries to put her down. That's what I try to teach the most.

She's a driver now and even if she isn't my own, it scares the crap out of me when she is on the road, LOL, but she has to do it, right?! LOL.

That’s awesome!

Are you and your wife going to have any more kids?
