I recently joined a forum where the members were purposely ignoring me. It was a small forum with only a few members. I kept posting and posting and posting around the forums sure enough only posts made by their freinds got quoted and answered. I'd even ask a direct question to a couple of the members and they never got answered.. The person would view the thread and then not reply.. Then when one of their friends came in, they'd respond to their post instantly. It was obvious that what they were doing was on purpose and for their own amusement.

Do you think this is immature behavior? Shouldn't the members of a forum be welcoming of a new member instead of ignoring everything they say at all costs and only responding to their friends? Do you think this displays said forum in a negative light?

Of course this is immature behaviour. It says something about all the people that hang around on that forum if they all ignore you.

They should be. They're going to be losing members if they keep doing this. No-one'll want to hang around a forum, where everything they say is going to be ignored by the present members.

Again, it says something about the people who are on the forum, and the people that post on forum are giving the forum a bad image. If the people are ignorent, this type of behaviour'll turn potential member's away. No-one wants to join a community that don't acknowledge their existance.

Yes, I think this is immature behavior. Some forum members judge you soley on your introduction thread. They don't take the time to get to know you and this is so immature it isn't funny. They also accuse members of breaking a board rule and when proven wrong, they put you on a shit list. Some forum members are a clique and they run the show not the mods or Admin. You find out soon enough and when you do, it's time to move on. Who wants to be part of Internet drama when we all have enough in our RL.

I agree with the above

Sophomoric, stupid, pointless and dumb, too.

A bit redundant if you ask me, but the answer to the question is, yeah, it's immature and shouldn't happen on forums but a large portion of the forums out there choose to do this and only welcome members into the group after they are there for a certain amount of time, sucks but it happens.

Im not too bothered. I thought it was rather pathetic behavior and seemed like good inspiration for a topic. Some of these people are grown folks and I thought they would be above acting like that but I guess not.

That's definitely no way to run a forum, nor attract new members.

Personally I try and welcome all members and interact with them. I certainly wouldn't be ignoring any question that a new member posted.

Those are the types that have their little buddies join over MSN and make you just be the ambiance or the extra in their little scenes on a public messageboard. They want you to give them the successful board but they don't really want you to engage them.

If a forum has a few members then they shouldn't really ignore anyone who joins because that just turns people away thus causes the forum to lose members and become dead (:

In real life, i feel bad when i ignore people, even if they are the most annoying person in the world, I feel the need to reply else i feel bad.

On forums and sites i don't really care, but if people are nice to me, i will be nice to them.

I'm sorry, did you say something?

Yeah, what he said. A forum like that won't last long.
