Jump in the Bandwagon or have your own Opinion

When I enter a debate, I form my opinions on facts. No matter how good a debater you might think you are, if you can't factually back up what you say, you will lose the debate every time. I notice a lot of debates, these days, are based on the persons own opinion without any facts what-so-ever to back up what the debate is about. No matter how many facts that person is given, they refuse to accept the fact they are wrong. They just go on and on and when asked a question, they ignore the question. They have their own agenda and no matter what, their opinion is always right. That to me, is not a debate. That to me is trolling.

Yes but you have to remember "Having a right to an opinion, doesn't make your opinion right."

there are no right or wrong, in an opinion. So someone can prove a person wrong all he/she wants.... doesn't mean that person can't say it or can't defend it?

In my opinion, the world is flat not round. Because I have a right to an opinion, I'm correct, right?

It depends on the debate in question as you can't always run to facts to win them as some of them are based entirely on subjective reasoning such as taste, looks, while others use objective reasoning where there is only one right answer such as say a math problem or basically any trivia question you could think of. I wouldn't think of facts as a safe harbor as facts can be wrong, made to mislead or incomplete where missing info if found would change your viewpoint of a subject. Just because you got the facts to go along with your statement even then doesn't necessarily mean you are right either. In the end, it all comes down to how much faith you have in what you consider truth to actually be correct.

It's good to seek out the facts and use them to base your viewpoints on them but don't get so dead set on the facts you have to not allow your viewpoint to change as the facts you have change. It's way too easy to get set on a viewpoint even if it is later shown to be wrong.

As for me, I form my opinions based on the facts at hand and leave room for change if any new facts come to light or old ones get proven to be wrong.
