Listing banned members?

Here's a thought: What do you think of a forum that has so many banned members that they could generate a list? It that really an endeavor you want to accomplish?

I would have no need for a list for either board I owned as I only banned one person on each of them for offenses that I felt required it. They would have to be a level of stupid that makes you wonder how they could arrive at such of a level of stupid yet somehow not kill themselves with their own idiocy to get banned by me. I really don't like doing it and will make every effort to resolve issues so that doesn't need to happen. If you gain and maintain your community's respect, you really don't have problems dealing with troublemakers who are active members as the thought of doing anything even remotely disrespectful becomes so repulsive that even accidental disrespect is followed almost immateriality by a sincere apology. That's the right way to ensure you keep order on your community and not making a list of banned members or using threats and intimidation to do it. Those never work in the long run.

Most of the pests I had to deal with were outsiders joining to cause problems and not problems between active members and no list is needed for them so no need for a list of banned members in my opinion.

I think it's good to know who's banned just so you don't waste your time replying to their threads or posts and also it's a reminder that we need to follow the rules or there are consequences. I'm not saying you have to go into detail in why that user is banned but it is good to know when a member has been reprimanded.

Banned members' posts actually have a flag on them in my forums. I think I did that with an add-on.

We do announce bans in the members-only site business forum, but don't maintain a public list (there is a post in the private staff forum where we keep a history of disciplinary action). There aren't really that many in the end.

Oh the banned members flag sounds like a fantastic idea.

When I ran my forum back in the day we would also have a staff only thread where we would keep a history of disciplinary actions. I also agree you don't have to have a public list but as long as a member is able to tell if someone is banned then they won't waste their time replying to a banned member.

At the minimum they should have the BANNED tag under their username in posts, TBH.
