Just got back from visiting long distance family. Had a great time together but I'm already missing them a lot! It's really difficult having long distance family because you rarely get to see them and when you do it's not for long. See, I'm not an emotional person, but when I got home I nearly just broke down. They used to live near us but a few years ago they moved and now we only see them maybe a couple times a year for major holidays. It's just really painful because when we saw them this trip we had not seen them in over a year, and now that I'm home again I hate knowing that it could be till Christmas before I see them again.

Anyone else have long distance family? If so, how do you deal with it?

I do and I deal with it alright. Its been going on for so long, it would feel weird if they were local as Ive always thought of them as far away family members.

I don't have any family that's within six hundred miles of me (except my parents/brother), and it's been like that my whole life. We used to see them once a year but now we just go like every two years. I don't really care, I don't like them... my granpda (dad's dad) died a few years back and he was the main one I really liked.

I'm sorry to hear about that. In my case, we have a great time together and we all get along great. It's just the last day is always ruined because we know it's our last day to spend time together, and knowing we won't get to see each other for a long time makes it even worse. I just wish we could see them more, I really do. On the bright side, we got to see my cousins win their basketball tournament! It meant so much to them that we were there. They played so hard knowing that we were there watching them, and it payed off because they won their game by one point at the very end. They were so happy and I was just so happy for them and it's moments like these that you can never get back, and I was so glad I could be there to see them win the championship. I just wish I didn't have to miss out on stuff like this most of the time.

However, I can say that having long distance family is hard, but it makes you value the time you spend together much more than you do your local family that you see all the time. In addition, it makes you grateful that you do have local family that you can see on a daily basis, so some positive comes out of the whole long distance family problem.

I have an uncle who is in Hamilton, Ontario and another one with my three cousins in Dubai. I never see them though.

I have relatives who live near Surfers Paradise, Australia. I haven't seen for about 4 or 5 years, but we saw them in June and it'll probably be another few years before I see them again. Thank goodness for Facebook, that's the only way we stay in contact.

I also have relatives on New Jersey, USA but they have a bungalow near my nan and come home to the UK every 4/6 months for a few months.
