Members Banned Forever

On one of the forums that I am a member of, they are allowing members that have been banned forever to come back

Would you allow this on your forum? Why or why not?

One forum I moderate, other Mods and Admins constantly want to unban the worst users (trolls who are terrible at trolling, trolls who are average, trolls who are good at trolling)... it is sooo annoying, luckily I usually stop them from doing that..



last time they unbanned someone like that the user came and started chaos and apparently almost made someone commit suicide

Would you allow this on your forum? Why or why not?

If I felt that they could be trusted and had managed to prove themselves. I probably would.

Depends on how bad the they where i might.

I dont really like to ban people forever. If its really severe then yeah but a 6 month or 1 year ban would be enough for most severe offenses.

lol you can do that by simply getting a new internet connection and registering on another account

its one reason i just dont go there any more...........it was getting boring anyway and then that thread got created........all of a sudden the admin appeared and did work that i gathered needed doing for years......i honestly think he invited ppl back cos 1.....he needs regulars back cos the numbers of them are dwindling...2 the mods are so heavy handed that they ban people that dont need banning



i even got a 'freindly' warning cos i dared post a 10 year old cartoon which had a copyright mark

...they didnt want 'cease and desist notices'

.......i got a bollocking cos i dared post jokes and pics in multiple threads.....the reason?...it made the front page look untidy ffs!



i go on forums to have fun...........there isnt any there

It's starting to pick up Beo. The mods there were way too heavy handed and wouldn't listen to what the members wanted. Then a mod who hadn't been around for 2 years came back and started banning people she didn't like. I personally thought the admin was bored with it and just wanted the site to die.



However, when the site got to the stage where it was dying, he changed his mind. He's now updated it instead and cancelled the ridiculous bannings. The mods are just sitting in the background now, playing nice. The banning mod has buggered off again.



Most of those banned should never have been banned! The trouble was that the Admin disappeared for ages leaving his mods to run the show, and they just became power crazy.

Occasionally. Personally, I don't ban people, I just put them on the Global Ignore thing, it's more fun.

Only for two reasons:



1) They were banned wrongfully.

2) I have a good reason to believe that they have completely reformed. This would normally be through measuring their behaviour on another forum. At the same time, I'd let the ban stand for six months to a year, just to make a point.



That said, number two is a rare event and I've never seen it happen on a forum I've run.

The problem with any forum Is the ego of the Moderators. If you have a Moderator who takes personal dislikes to the forum and a site owner who was away for several months, then the Hitleresque powers come to the front. It speaks for It's self that the one Moderator who did the banning Is no no longer on that forum and the site owner being quite horrified to return to find his forum dying a death because of them.

Rather than ban members who have the guts to speak their minds and not kiss the arsse of any Moderator, the bans should go out to the saddo's who believe that every-one on a forum Is a friend In the real world. They sit In their sad pathetic little lives thinking they know more about the members than they do them-selves.

Then the newbie's start getting messages saying 'hello my friend, can I have your E mail address because I do not trust the message system here'?.... Only they are too thick to realise these E mails get forwarded. One forum I am on, Is considering using these E mails In the moderators room to see exactly what the libel a member has been sending. Any-one who Is dumb enough to fall for It and believe the crap they write, needs their heads examined. Wolves very often come In sheep's clothing. They have not got the balls to say what they are saying In E mails on an open board.

You can always tell these saddo's... they have their own room on a forum but only one person posts on It. Then they repeat their dreary life on some other members room.

They Insist they have members on Ignore but then go whining about their posts. Then they copy every-thing about the member they are complaining about... their style of writing, the words they use etc etc.

They believe they are popular when truth is every-one avoids their posts like the plague and Is laughing at them.
