What is something that your neighbors do that irritates the crap out of you?

One set of neighbors are girls (daughters of the mom paying the rent) and they seem to only date gangster looking thug guys, I'm sick of those fools staring at me, giving me the "What are you looking at?!" look and pulling up with their blasting music. They also throw a lot of parties.

I used to live in a second floor apartment. The guy across the hall from me thought EVERY night was party night. There would be people running up and down the stairs. He would leave his apartment door open and blast the music. People would stand outside my apartment door talking loudly and some would even sing at the top of their lungs.

I had to get up and start to get ready for work at 6 am. Hell, the party was just winding down then. I literally had to step over people that were sleeping or passed out on the stairs to get to the front door.

I called the landlord to complain but he did nothing. I finally had enough and contacted the police to ask if there was a noise ordinance for our town. They said yes and people could not make noise after 10 pm that would bother the 'peace and quiet' of others. That night when the party was in 'full swing', I called the police at 10:15 pm. The police arrived and the people were told to leave and the guy was told to lower the music. As soon as the police left, the music started blasting again. I called the police back.

To make a long story short, he was finally fined and evicted.

The guy next door to me likes to exercise. No biggie, right? I'm glad he's health-conscious, but it shakes the apartment. I can hear it when he jump ropes in the kitchen. The rope snapping down against the tiled floor is loud enough to come through the wall. And whatever he's doing in the living room, I don't know...training for next season's Superbowl, is entirely annoying. That's when the floor in my living room shakes and thumps, and I'm just glad I'm next to him and not below him. I can only imagine how loud it is down there.

Neighbors that watch you come and go then make comments so you know they are watching you.

That's creepy.

I got the police at my door once thanks to a neighbor. She thought drugs were being burned in the fireplace...

I haven't really had any bad experiences since then. :P

Speaking of police, I used to live in this apartment building when I was in school. The next door neighbor didn't really make much noise, but there was one day that was extra odd. The fire alarm had gone off twice, and I had seen a weird young man in the hallway not too long after that happened.

When I went back inside my apartment, I heard loud music blaring from next door. He was playing The Misfits - Last Caress, but not the entire song. No, just the first twenty seconds or so before he started it over again. That's about the time I started to hear things breaking, glass shattering. The guy next door was throwing things up against the wall. At that point, I was pretty freaked out and decided to call 911.

The police responded maybe five-ish minutes later only to find out that they couldn't get inside his apartment because he had barricaded the front door. I watched them gather around his front window (we were on the ground floor, so they could stand outside his living room window) with their guns drawn and they ordered him to come outside. He crawled through the window eventually, and they took him to the hospital for a psych evaluation.

I don't know what happened to the guy, but I'm assuming he had some issues he needed worked out. Hopefully he got the help he needed because that was terrifying.
