Why is this even possible to be a thing? Utah is trying to regulate what people do in their own home? That's a joke, and if I lived in Utah, I'd still buy alcohol and purposely avoid buying a permit. That is so stupid. When I'm in my home that I paid for and pay the bills for, the government has no right to try and tell me what I can and can't eat, drink, do, etc.

Don't have any parties or people over and you should be alright.

You think that's bad? Somewhere in Utah there's a law that doesn't allow anal sex in the home.

:lol2: Utah sounds like a sucky place.

...No offence to our Utah visitors, of course.

Only reason I even know that is cause an old friend of mine who now lives in the UK somewhere with her wife and kids used to live in Utah.

But anyway, a permit to drink? Way to be dictator there.

A permit to serve alcohol to multiple people.

Public places should have rules but what people do in the privacy of their own homes (or at a friends house) should be private. I think this would be a hard law to enforce. How are they going to know unless they put everyone under constant surveillance.

Exactly!

There are places that can now tell you that you cannot smoke in your own home.

Condominium smoking restrictions and prohibitions are becoming more and more common in local law and in condo CC&Rs (“Declaration of Conditions, Covenants and Restrictions”), bylaws and rules. The increase in smoking bans reflects the growing recognition that secondhand smoke is more than just an annoyance and a discomfort; it exposes non-smokers, especially children and the elderly, to serious health hazards. This article answers the most commonly asked questions about smoking restrictions in condominiums.

And they can tell you not to display the American flag on your own property.

A homeowner’s association in Houston, TX is suing a former Marine for disobeying its rules and erecting a 20 ft. flagpole to fly his Marine Corps and American flags. The HOA’s argument? The pole flapping in the wind poses “imminent harm” and “causes noise to other homeowners.” But neighbors say they don’t mind, and now a prominent U.S. lawmaker has stepped up to support the Marine.

How is this different?

Those Who Know What Is Best For You have decided that "a man's home is NOT his castle".

According to Wikipedia:

My state of Michigan is just a spirits beverage control state. Both on and off the premises, sales every day except Sunday can be sold at 7 am. On Sundays, alcohol can't be sold until 12 noon. They allow all types of alcohol sold in grocery stores. According to the notes for Michigan, the liquor control commission can allow sales until 11:59 pm December 24th, and they can continue sales on Christmas Day at 12:00 noon. On-premises sales may continue January 1st until 4:00 am. County and local ordinances reserve the right to restrict morning sales. Michigan does not operate the retail outlets, but maintain a monopoly over the wholesale of distilled spirits.

What you said about Utah, though, is a different story.

I think the permit for Utah beer parties is just bat-shit crazy. Many people would think that the "Drink-Drank-Drunk" parties are a good idea. NO WAY JOSE!

The state would just shake each and every alcoholic like a doll and treat them like babies!
