Premier League 2022/23 Thread

So who do you guys think will go down this season?
Fulham, Bournemouth and Southampton
Who is your top 6 for this year?
City, Liverpool, Chelsea, Spurs and two of either United, Arsenal or Leicester City
Do Newcastle make that top 6?
No but if Eddie Howe plays the cards right, I could see him becoming today's version of David Moyes's Everton back when Moyes was there as manager - not a title-winning side but a solid performer.

Liverpool 9, Bournemouth 0.
So much for all the boo-birds saying we'd lost our fire, our spark....well, fuck them!

But was a pretty good result. Surprised Salah didnt score or assist in the game as well.
I'm surprised as well; I mean, everyone else did.
That said, I liked how we shut up the "ohh, you won't score with Mane gone" assholes... :D

Week-4-Prem.png

Week 4 in the books and lots to talk about this week.
Biggest result was of course Liverpool who responded to the slow start this season and all the critics with a 9-0 thumping of Bournemoth, who in turn have sacked Scott Parker as Manager this morning. No other real shocks this weekend with wins for Chelsea, Spurs, Man Utd, Man City, Brighton and Arsenal, the latter who are still unbeaten this season.
Newcastle gain a last minute point as Wolves with a couple other draws elsewhere.

Do you think it too early to be sacking your manager? How do you think Bournemoth are going to fair?

With the deadline looming, do you think anyone else will be making a splash? Will Gordon leave Everton? Forfana's deal a good signing if it finally goes through for Chelsea? Did Man Utd overpay for Antony, or is it the norm of football these days?

Any surprises for you this season so far? I for one have been impressed with Notts Forest, yeah they havent had the results go there way but they have been in most of their games compared to others down the bottom. I am also surprised Everton are doing so poorly. The lack of a proper striker without Calvert-Lewin is big for them, especially being as they let Richarlson go.

Your thoughts on all things Premier League!

Bournemouth will seek to make a quick managerial appointment after sacking Scott Parker four games into a torrid return to the Premier League. Parker was dismissed three days after an embarrassing 9-0 defeat by Liverpool, which followed 4-0 and 3-0 losses against Manchester City and Arsenal. While chastening, that run of results was not the sole factor behind the club’s decision to part ways.

Only a wild optimist would have expected the promoted side to take anything from those fixtures but Parker’s comments after the heavy defeat at Anfield went down poorly with the hierarchy.

Parker had indicated after the game that he felt the club had not spent enough this summer in paying £22.6m for two players and making three free transfers. “I have been clear how this season could look for us and I stick by that,” he said. “We need to make a decision and try and help this young group who at times are struggling for air. Every one of us needs to make that decision. We have been trying to get more quality in and there are a million reasons why [it hasn’t happened].”

Those sentiments echoed similar comments made in pre-season and, in culmination, convinced the club’s ownership that Parker’s position was no longer tenable. Bournemouth’s owner, Maxim Demin, appeared to react to Parker’s comments as part of his statement confirming the sacking. “I would like to place on record my gratitude to Scott and his team for their efforts during their time with us,” Demin said. “Our promotion back to the Premier League last season under his tenure will always be remembered as one of the most successful seasons in our history.

Yeah, thought I'd make it look a lil official lol

Yeah Everton got lucky with late goal, I think they are really going to struggle this season.

I doubt they will postpone the game.

He has certainly hit the grounds runnning. Be interesting how Pep handles rotation on his squad. I was surprised Ake has played both games this season already. I know Laporte is injured but Stones?
Stones is better than Maguire though, loads better. Haaland seems unstoppable upfront. He literally boxed out that defender to receive the pass and turned it into a beautiful finish. As long as he has Bernado, Foden, De Bruyne, etc he should have plenty of opportunities to score.

On the other hand, Man United need to find a clinical finisher because Ronaldo has been delivering beautiful crosses and they can't seem to finish.

(BBC Sport) It was a day of managers disagreeing over the correct use of the video assistant referee as several Premier League games threw up controversial decisions on Saturday.

West Ham were denied a 90th-minute equaliser when Maxwel Cornet's effort was ruled out after Jarrod Bowen was judged to have fouled Edouard Mendy in the build-up - a decision David Moyes called "scandalous".

Elsewhere, Newcastle saw what Eddie Howe called a "perfectly good goal" chalked off and Leeds boss Jesse Marsch was sent off for his reaction to two penalty decisions that did not go his side's way in a defeat by Brentford. "Players and managers have been let down today, it's been a terrible day - they have been let down by decisions like that," said Alan Shearer on Match of the Day.

Former top-flight manager Tony Pulis said on BBC Radio 5 Live: "It's not VAR - let me get this correct. VAR just records the TV footage, it's the people who are running VAR. It's those human beings who are making the decisions. It's the referees stuck in that office, wherever they are, making the decisions."

There was one instance, however, of a referee being told to consult the pitchside monitor and sticking with their on-field decision. That came at Nottingham Forest, where Michael Oliver awarded a penalty for handball and - five minutes later - it was scored by Brennan Johnson. "Well done Michael Oliver, at last a referee has had the guts to say 'I am sticking with my decision'," said Shearer. "Don't be surprised to see more of that in the coming weeks because he is the first to do it."

(The Guardian) The Premier League has announced all matches this weekend will be postponed as a mark of respect to the Queen. In a statement, it said: At a meeting this morning, Premier League clubs paid tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To honour her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation, and as a mark of respect, this weekend’s Premier League match round will be postponed, including Monday evening’s game.

Further updates regarding Premier League fixtures during the period of mourning will be provided in due course.

(The Guardian) British football has squandered an opportunity to pay tribute to the Queen by cancelling all matches this weekend, according to the Football Supporters’ Association.

Whereas sports including cricket, golf, rugby league and rugby union are going ahead, there will be no football in England this weekend, with all matches from the Premier League to grassroots level postponed after the death of Elizabeth II on Thursday.

Schools’ football has also been suspended in England from Friday until Sunday with the English Schools’ Football Association advising its members not to play.

Professional games in Scotland have also been postponed but grassroots football will be played as normal. All matches in Wales and Northern Ireland have been called off.

The FSA, which represents fans in England and Wales, encouraged football authorities to proceed with matches so that fans could pay respect to the Queen, as they did at West Ham and Manchester United on Thursday in European competition fixtures.

But the request was rejected, bringing further congestion to a condensed fixture schedule and costing fans who have paid for travel and accommodation for matches. -- “We believe football is at its finest when bringing people together at times of huge national significance – be those moments of joy or moments of mourning,” said the FSA in a statement.

Our view, which we shared with the football authorities, is that most supporters would have liked to go to games this weekend and pay their respect to the Queen alongside their fellow fans. Not everyone will agree, so there was no perfect decision for the football authorities, but many supporters will feel this was an opportunity missed for football to pay its own special tributes.

Sorry for the no update. Been a bit busy.
Glad they stopped the footy this weekend as a tribute.

(The Guardian) Premier League clubs will play the national anthem and hold a minute’s silence before all matches this weekend to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. Managers have also been told to consider wearing suits and leading their teams out, and there will also be a minute’s applause on 70 minutes to mark the length in years of the Queen’s reign. Big screens and advertising boards around pitches will display tribute images rather than familiar messages.

Seven Premier League matches will be played on Friday, Saturday and Sunday after last weekend’s programme was controversially cancelled in the wake of the Queen’s death.

Insiders claimed that football felt it was appropriate to have a weekend of mourning for the monarch, which included stopping all grassroots football, given the Queen was the patron of the Football Association and Prince William is its president. However the decision was widely criticised, especially given most other sports, including cricket and golf, went ahead last weekend.

The news was confirmed by the Premier League, which said: “All Premier League matches between Friday 16 and Sunday 18 September will provide an opportunity for the League, clubs and fans to come together to pay tribute to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, honouring her extraordinary life and contribution to the nation and world. “Fans will be asked to join a minute’s silence, which will be followed by the national anthem, God Save The King. Big screens and LED perimeter boards will display tribute images to Her Majesty and flags at the grounds will be flying at half-mast. When the clock turns to 70 minutes, fans will be invited to applaud the Queen’s 70-year reign.”

A Premier League spokesman confirmed managers wearing suits “was a suggestion not a directive”.

Liverpool’s trip to Chelsea and Leeds’ visit to Manchester United on Sunday have been postponed due to police shortages in the buildup to the Queen’s funeral on Monday. Brighton’s home match with Crystal Palace had already been postponed because of rail strikes, which have subsequently been cancelled.

Arsenal’s Europa League tie at home to PSV Eindhoven tonight has been rescheduled for 20 October, prompting the postponement of their Premier League game the previous night at home to Manchester City.

I'm surprised they cancelled the games.
Saw a few people saying they should have held the games and celebrated her life with the anthems and stuff which i can see their idea.
Saw the Scottish teams did something tonight in Europe which was a nice touch. Shame they couldn't do much on the pitch lol.

Let me guess: Rangers lost tonight?

Rangers were told not to play the national anthem by UEFA, but did it anyway (love it). Chelsea didn't play it, but the fans still sang it.

Week-8.png

Week 8
Apologies for the MIA of this thread.
Week 8 is in the books and more Premier League results. Not much happening in terms of upsets this week. Arsenal and Man City continue their good run of form, Haaland in particular on the scorecards again. Spurs thump Leicester, though it was a close game before Son was subbed on. Newcastle fail to win again being held at Bournemouth while Everton finally get a win at home to West Ham.Wins for Villa and Fulham round out the weekend.

Do you think Haaland will win the Golden Boot this year after such a fast start to his Premier League career?
Are Arsenal serious contenders only having dropped points to Man Utd and could have easily won that game if things went their way?
Worrying times for West Ham and Leicester?

Your thoughts!

Let me think.....yes. (Unless Liverpool's Egyptian King, Mo Salah, can start cranking out goals left and right)

As much as I want to say no, I'm tempted to say "wait and see" for now.
Worrying times for West Ham and Leicester?
For West Ham, no; David Moyes has got a good size for a team of West Ham's stature. If he can do for them what he used to do for Everton, watch out.

For Leicester...
