Premier League 2022/23 Thread

(BBC Sport) Wolves have sacked manager Bruno Lage after 16 months in charge following Saturday's defeat by West Ham United left them in the bottom three.

Lage succeeded Nuno Espirito Santo last summer and led Wolves to a 10th-placed finish in his first season in charge. However, they have won one and lost nine of their past 15 Premier League matches under the Portuguese.

Wolves chairman Jeff Shi said that poor form meant he had "no choice" but take the "difficult decision" to sack Lage.

"Bruno is an excellent coach, a hardworking and dedicated manager, and a warm, wise and honest man," said Shi. "He and his staff have been a pleasure to work with throughout their time at Wolves, so it is with much sadness that we have had to make what has been a difficult decision. I honestly have no doubts about Bruno's ability and I'm sure he will succeed elsewhere, however the team's form and performances over the last few months mean that we have no choice but to act."

@Mini Maul, with the approaching World Cup break coming up, thoughts on the season thus far?

Apologies for the absense, been very busy IRL xD

Theres been some good stories so far in the Premiership and will be interesting when the season returns.
Im glad Arsenal are back in the mix, they seemed to always have a good spell during a season but were never able to put a full season together. Newcastle as well, even though for all the money they have available to them, I think they have actually spent and invested quite well and havent gone over the top like some clubs do to get players that may not be the best fit for them, they clearly have a plan and are executing it, Im glad for Eddie Howe as well as a lot of people talked him down after Bournemoth went down and he left them.

For Man United? Its still a question of uncertainty to be honest. Everytime I think they are heading in the right direction, a random result just pops up and makes you go 'what on earth is going on'. Ronaldo needs to go now after what has literally just happened, I agree with some of the points he made but over points didnt need to be said and he is just being a immature baby now and he just needs to go. I dont think United need him either now and perform better without him. I think ETH just needs time, maybe like what Arteta got at Arsenal. It never looked like he was going to piece it together, but eventually they did and he seems like he has a group of players he really likes there, and I think thats where they need to give ETH to time to get a set of players that he wants there.

What about yourself and Liverpool? Where you think its gone wrong this year so far?

Its' been a Jekyll & Hyde season for the Reds thus far; there've been times where we've looked like the champions of old and then there've been where we seem to trip over each other every other step. Throw in Jurgen Klopp's penchant for crashing down in the 7th years of his managerial spells (as with his time w/Mainz & Dortmund)... ....I think it's a wait-and-see attitude for most of us Reds' fans; it'll depend on what competitions Klopp prioritizes after the WC break (do we prioritize the cup competitions over the league or vice versa?)....

Arsenal & Newcastle have been the stars of the league thus far; both Mikel Arteta and Eddie Howe have something special going on at the Emirates and Tyneside and Arsenal is a legit title contender this season. Newcastle's a legit top-4 club, something I didn't think would happen given their recent past. City, however, are still the club to beat and unless City finally break their European hoodoo, they're still the favorites to hoist the title at season's end.

As for United? I think Ten Hag has turned that club around in the post-Fergie era (something Moyes and Van Gaal and Mourinho and Solksaer couldn't do) and other than the ongoing saga w/Cristiano Ronaldo, there's not much stopping them from returning to the sharp end of the table and as long as the Glazers don't put their hairy grubby fingers over things at Old Trafford, I see them as another legit top-4 contender.
