Proxy Servers

I only use them when I get blocked by a server. Some hosts inforce very high security settings and if you browse around a forum or website too quickly (load the page too many times), the server thinks you are a spam bot or something and then bans you. Most of them only block you for an hour or two. Others (like Cirtex, a host we used to use) would do a permanent block and I would constantly be sending in support tickets to get people unblocked. Those who didnt know what was happening, probably assumed that the forum went down and stopped visiting.

That's about the only time that I use one too. I know people that pay for software (usually $19.95/mo) to hide their IP address.

One site I used to visit would post the IP address.

You could register or post unregistered. So, Nebulous, your posts would listed as California--and the city where you post from.

People would use proxy servers on that site just so they could troll around and cause grief. Sad for a site that is supposedly for adults....

I do. I haven't lately. Just when I feel its necessary.

I use proxies and VPN's like Cyber Ghost and Tor. Thats about it.

Yeah that host was lame.

Its easier to use a VPN than a web based proxy.

Thanks  :P

I have no choice but to use a proxy server as I use a dial up service provider to access the internet. There is no option in my rural area other than to use a dial up service.

That sucks that you're stuck with dial up. How are you even able to stay on the Internet without getting kicked off all of the time? When I had dial up. It was horrible.

With my old provider AOHell, I got kicked off constantly. I have now been using another provider for 8 months now. I have yet to be kicked offline.

Thats good. I always had a hell of a time with dial up. It took my anti virus for ever to update or never because the connection was either too slow or just get cut off.

But its good you have a better provider.

I used to use proxy servers, but most of them are very inefficient to use with modern forum scripts (such as IPB and Burning Board), so I prefer to use VPNs nowadays. Even those seem to have been had some of their IP addresses blocked by the anti-spam filters of some forums...

Most days well good secure forums with cloud flare will detect your proxy and not let you on.

GoogleDNS is the best idea.

Google will change your DNS and IP to their designated address.

Google: GoogleDNS
