I think it's OK if I get a gift I know for sure someone else would love much more.

You?

Merry Christmas to all.

Once a person receives a gift, I think it's theirs to do as they will with it. If that means passing it on to someone else, particularly when better served with the item, then by all means it shouldn't be a problem.

Amen, we agree.

Some people in my own family believe that once a gift is given, it should stay in place. Or so said.

Yeah, I regift a lot. What's the point of keeping something you don't want? It's just hoarding.

Otherwise it goes to the charity shop.

I used to keep all the unwanted gifts. Then I moved house and so much of the stuff I moved was unwanted junk. I realised it's just all clutter.

I used to keep it in case people were upset that I hadn't kept their gift, but I have realised now that that's just silly. I can't keep everything.

So if it's not beautiful or useful, it's regifted or dumped. That's life.

I agree that once someone gives me a gift then it's mine. If I don't like the gift then I have every right to give it to someone who likes it. I can't tell you how many gifts I have received that I have taken over to my local nursing home. The seniors there are thrilled even with the ugliest sweaters I have ever seen.

If it's an item that I cannot take to the nursing home then I bring it to the local Red Cross Center.

I guess in between on it. I've never regifted anything I've gotten because I feel the person giving me the gift did so from the heart or that's what I like to believe. Nothing wrong with regifting, I just would not personally do it.

It is certainly a very practical thing to do, but, yeah....I'd feel very shaky about doing it. I would not want to offend the giver of the gift.

I do it every year. I re-gift 90% of what I get for Christmas from relatives. They give me a lot of things I don't want to which me and my wife donate or give it away to other people.
