A Renaissance fair, Renaissance faire or Renaissance festival is an outdoor gathering that aims to recreate a historical setting—most often the English Renaissance—for the amusement of its guests. Renaissance fairs generally include an abundance of costumed entertainers or fair-goers, musical and theatrical acts, art and handicrafts for sale, and festival food. These fairs are open to the public and typically commercial in nature; some are permanent theme parks, while others are short-term events in a fairground, winery, or other large public or private spaces. Some offer campgrounds for those who wish to stay more than one day.

Many Renaissance fairs are set during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I of England. Some are set earlier, during the reign of Henry VIII, or in other countries, such as France, and some are set outside the era of the Renaissance; these may include earlier medieval periods (including Vikings), or later periods, such as 17th- or 18th-century pirates. Some engage in deliberate "time travel" by encouraging participants to wear costumes representing several eras in a broad time period. Renaissance fairs encourage visitors to enter into the spirit of things with costumes and audience participation. Many welcome fantasy elements such as wizards and elves.

Have you ever been to a renaissance fair? Would you go to one?

Yup, I've been. Had a friend in junior high/high school who did renaissance fairs and her mother made clothing. I got to wear a super cool dress that had a lot of layers. It was really fun and I would definitely do it again. Lots of good memories!

I would go just to check it out but it would be hard for me to stay in character.

I went to one last December and the year before. Dressed up too in my lovely green dress but had to hold the ends up as it was raining and muddy.

I've been to the PA ren. faire twice. Dressed up the 2nd time.

I've never been to one; but they look lots of fun.
