Reputation on forums!

It doesn't exist anymore, unless someone kept a backup copy of the entire database. It's a shame, though. It was good forum, primarily dedicated to gaming, but it covered other (general) things too. It ran on an old vBulletin software which was outdated even by that time period's standards, but no one cared. The member base was enormous and the activity was so high some threads were going PAGES per minute. You couldn't even post without a bunch of people cutting in while you were typing.
Sounds a lot like GameWinners used to be way back in the day, massively active and lively!

GameWinners? Never heard of it. I shall refrain from naming the forum I'm talking about to avoid offending anyone.

IMO it's pretty useless.

And one thing I'd definitely do on a forum with a reputation system, is disable negative reputation. People who post in good faith, but just get something wrong or get disagreed with, will be put off if they're given negative reputation - whereas the actual problem users will see negative reputation as a badge of honour. So having negative reputation just benefits a few trolls, at the expense of everyone else.

oh man, this was definitely a think back in 2008 ish. You could not be more popular if you were staff on the same x amount of forums that were online during that time. Sometimes the most popular people were like staff on 10 forums or something. Nowadays it's far less important. I couldn't give two fucks about my popularity tbf.
I was guilty of this. Not popular or anything at all, though. I would be staff on way too many forums back then. Thankfully many of those sites didn't last long or I'd get demoted due to being inactive. Also yeah, I remember this big time. So many of the same people were staff on forums then that were online. I specially did notice this with ZetaBoards and IF forums then.

Good times though. Wish we could relive the past.

How about an Off Topix LAN party? Neb has a large house. If we run out of space, we can always duck tape someone to the ceiling. Now THAT would be reliving the past. ;)

What are we going to play? Unreal Tournament? StarCraft? Anyone still have their old Windows 95 / 98 machine stashed away somewhere? :D

FP had a rep system years ago, where the goal was to show appreciation for the graphics team (before kik), or the review team of packages, before the pay packets started rolling in. But it never worked out as well as it wanted too.

Ah I do seem to recall this on FP years ago. I wish I could recall my username way back during FP's beginnings.

I avoid joining sites with karma/rep systems. They are easily abused by members.
Seen it many many times. Seems like karma/rep is a thing of the past though.
Totally agreed. We used to have a rep system on a forum I ran, GameWinners, it got so bad we actually had to change the system into more of a quick commenting system that didn't add or subtract from any sort of score. People would "neg bomb" users for no reason...it got bad! Better off without them.
On here all the reactions will give you a +1 to your score except 'Disagree' which is a neutral +0 rating, it doesn't add or take away from the score.

There's not enough forums around anymore. Being popular in forums means less now that it used to.
This is 100% correct. I've seen it being used as a weapon numerous times, mainly as a silencing tool against the unlike-minded individuals. I even got neg-bombed for being nice and friendly to other people. According to the neg-bombers, I was "sucking up", because I was polite and resepectul toward the forum moderators.
I've seen it used as a weapon pretty bad on some forums way back in the day. I remember one forum had a system in place where if a member got enough negative reps, they would automatically be banned from the forum. People would team up and neg bomb a targeted member until they were banned.

That was this forum, didn't exist anymore. Even I thought it didn't exist anymore...until I found a backup (I didn't know I had) on a flashdrive.

Same here! Bring back the glory days!

The front living room would be the perfect space to recreate that. :P
Do we really want to know what @Nebulous would do with the ducktaped person? 🙈
Hmmm, cut them loose?

If you did remember you could have your accounts merged so you wouldn't look like a new member anymore. :P
