Reputation?

So, my question is how often do you give reputation points to users? When is a post worthy of it? And, have you ever given negative reputation points?



And to anyone who knows, if you - rep a person who has 0, does it go into negatives?

I only give rep to posts that deserve it. I dont give out negative reps because that just causes too much drama.

If a post is very informative and useful, that deserves a point. If someone makes a good point that I agree with, that deserves a point. If something was very funny and made me laugh, that deserves a point.. The list goes on and on..

I never bother with the rep system if a forum has one which most don't as I don't see a point in it nor do I care what the number reads for me or anyone else.

Negative rep when someone's blatantly breaking rules or being nasty - Infrequent

I give rep if I see something I agree with or I like, and I never give negative rep because it just causes a lot of drama.

From memory (which cannot be trusted) I have never ever ever given neg rep to anyone. I just feel mean, even if it's anonymous. I give rep for posts which make a lot of sense, that I agree with, are enlightening, or just really funny. Most of my rep goes to funny posts.

With neg rep, people like to contact you and ask why, it's a lot of fuss because people guard their rep points like their penis or something, besides if you know the person and it's a small forum, it's just plain awkward.

I have a rep system.. it is a feature on my forum, however, I don't use it. I've been on many other boards where it has been abused, and while, I am not at all implying that my members would abuse this, I feel that it is more trouble than it is worth.. and so, I leave it disabled.

I now give -rep to spambots. It doesn't accomplish a lot, but it makes me feel better.

I give rep for funny comments. For positive feedback. For cool avatars and signatures. Because it's Tuesday. Just whatever.

I don't give negative rep. If someone needs negative rep, as a staffer, I usually give them a warning.

I don't care much about the rep system. I just don't want people to judge me by the rep. I only give positive rep for brilliant post as for -rep nah. I would rather tell that person in the face that what they are doing is wrong than giving hidden message under -rep.

I got negative rep once for disagreeing with someone else's basketball team of choice. (he was a Duke fan, I'm for UK--and for those of you not in the United States, that probably doesn't make any sense) Anyhow--it was just in fun.

I give +rep for good and informative posts, and give -rep once in a blue moon for something really really bad

Rep caused me big problems on another forum. Some people got insanely jealous cause I had the most rep at the time. Someone even left over it!

In the end I got so sick of it that not only did I disable rep on my profile, I got the admin to set my rep back to 0 so that I wasn't showing up on the rep board at all.

anyways, i always give positive rep to everyone when i fee like it, and only give out bad rep when someone has argued with me or if they gave me it first.

She was one of the original members of the site but I think she got jealous over the fact that after I joined I got on really well with the other site members, and especially the admin. I dont know. She was kinda weird. Everyone who knew about it thought she was overreacting. I felt bad that she felt she had to leave. But I tried to sort things out with her, we even went into a chat room to discuss our issues but she just wouldnt talk about it.
