(The Guardian) Ron DeSantis to launch 2024 presidential bid next week: report
Florida governor Ron DeSantis is set to officially launch his 2024 presidential bid, according to multiple reports citing sources familiar with the matter.

One Republican source told CNN that the Republican governor will file candidacy paperwork next week with the Federal Election Commission and is set to make an official announcement in his home town of Dunedin, Florida, the following week.

Earlier this week, reports emerged that DeSantis is poised to sign a bill that would modify a Florida law and allow him to run for president while serving as governor. The bill is also expected to impose new voting restrictions across Florida and will make it increasingly difficult for non-profits to conduct voter registration drives.

Last Saturday, DeSantis rolled out a hefty list of endorsements from Iowa lawmakers and visited the crucial early-voting state in an attempt to garner support for his likely bid.
DeSantis gears up to face Trump directly with launch of presidential bid
Florida governor Ron DeSantis is set to officially launch his 2024 presidential bid, according to multiple reports citing sources familiar with the matter.

One Republican source told CNN that the Republican governor will file candidacy paperwork next week with the Federal Election Commission and is set to make an official announcement in his home town of Dunedin, Florida, the following week.

The reports follow DeSantis’s visit to Iowa last week where he participated in a public gathering hosted US House representative Randy Feenstra in the crucial early-voting stage. Prior to his visit, DeSantis rolled out a hefty list of endorsements from 37 Republican Iowa lawmakers, including senate president Amy Sinclair and house majority leader Matt Windschitl. “I think we need to restore sanity in this country,” DeSantis told a crowd of Iowa supporters last week, adding, “We must reject the culture of losing that has impacted our party in recent years. The time for excuses is over.”

DeSantis’s comments appeared to be a subtle jab at Donald Trump, currently the Republican frontrunner who has repeatedly attacked his ex-ally and is currently leading in the polls. Should DeSantis enter the presidential race, he will become Trump’s chief challenger.

In the past year, DeSantis has ramped up his “culture war” in Florida, from signing the state’s so-called “don’t say gay” bill into law to approving abortion bans after six weeks. Most recently, the rightwing governor signed a bill on Monday that defunds diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the state’s public colleges.

A native Floridian with blue-collar roots, Ron was raised in Dunedin by his mother, a nurse, and father, who installed cable boxes. He attended Dunedin High School and worked his way through Yale University, where he was the captain of the varsity baseball team. He also graduated with honors from Harvard Law School, where he earned a commission in the U.S. Navy as a JAG officer.

During his active-duty service, Ron deployed to Iraq in support of the SEAL mission in Fallujah, Ramadi and the rest of Al Anbar province. His military decorations include the Bronze Star Medal for Meritorious Service and the Iraq Campaign Medal. Ron also served as a prosecutor in Florida, where he put child predators behind bars. He was elected to Congress in 2012 on a platform of government accountability, advocating for term limits and a balanced budget amendment.

In Congress, DeSantis spearheaded the fight to expose the weaponization of the IRS against conservatives. He also fought to hold accountable the rogue federal agencies involved in manufacturing the "Russia collusion" conspiracy theory. As a veteran, DeSantis was a champion for those who have served our country, pushing for reforms to the VA to better serve veterans and expand support for mental health.

In 2018, Ron DeSantis was elected the 46th Governor of Florida. As governor, he has fought for what's right and taken the arrows for the people he represents. During the darkest days of 2020, when the corrupt establishment, bureaucracy, and corporate media united to force lockdowns and mandates on Americans, DeSantis stood up for freedom -- even when it wasn't popular...

Not voting for this idiot if his name comes up on the ballot.

I wonder whether Trump supporters will switch their support to him.

It’d be foolish to have someone in prison as President. Then again you never know as Trump supporters could use this underhandedly to get a law passed where the president DNA’s be behind bars! LOL

If he were to win. yes, he could scrub it out with a self pardon and make the conviction disappear.

The Constitution is probably best read to foreclose self-pardons, there is sufficient doubt about the matter that Trump might attempt it. Moreover, a putative prohibition on self-pardons would be relatively simple to evade with support from a pliant Congress under Republican control. Trump could resign, leaving the office of the presidency vacant. His Vice President—let’s call her Marjorie—would then become President. Marjorie would then pardon Trump and also name him as her Vice President, which Congress would confirm. At that point, Marjorie would resign the presidency, Trump would again become President, he would nominate Marjorie as his Vice President, and Congress would confirm that choice.

To be sure, the musical-chairs pardon ploy will not work if Trump’s conviction for insurrection precedes the election. At that point, he (or to be more precise, electors pledged to him) could be kept off of the ballot. However, given state administration of elections, he might stay on the ballot in enough states that he needs to win to prevail in the Electoral College. Thus, even a conviction for insurrection before the election might not suffice to prevent Trump from taking office. And if he were to become President, at that point, he could wipe out his prison sentence with either a self-pardon or a pardon by his pliant Vice President and the musical-chairs plot outlined above.

It's funny that people still believe that the president is the sole reason for gas prices and not the actual corporations.

That's not what the video addresses. It's just a thumbnail.

I honestly can't decide who I'd rather see least between he and Trump and I never thought I'd say that.

If Trump served wouldn’t that be chaos? And I also wonder whether he’d be able to release himself from prison, LMAO

They both suck though. At least Ron Desantis isn’t a criminal though he’s apparently a discriminatory figure

And you aren't, you're my enemy :)

Oh really? What brought you to that conclusion?

I don't think it takes that much longer to type out
President of the United States
than to type out
Google is your friend. :)

There are a lot of things that I look up that people say on here. I didn't think anything of it when I suggested it.

You said that google is my friend. Clearly I can't rely on you. Thanks!
Also didn't you warn me earlier? :p
Watch the personal attacks there, TL.
You better watch out
You better not cry
You better not pout
I'm telling you why
Santa clause is coming to town
