Smoking in Public Places

Does your country have a ban on smoking in public places. Back in 2006 & 2007, the UK had a ban on it, Scotland had it first, then England, then Wales, then Ireland

I'm pretty sure there is some sort of restaurant related smoking ban over here, but I'm all for a complete ban on smoking. Why not just extinguish the issue altogether?
