Smoking in Public

Awful. If you need to smoke, go outside. I don't need to smell like smoke, and get second hand fumes from you. If you need your smoke bad enough, you can go outside.

Some people want outside public places banned too.

I think if people want to smoke, they should do it outside. However I dont like it when I have to go walk through a cloud of smoke just to get inside of a building.

I think the law here is you have to do it 10 meters away from any public place. It's a good law. If you want to smoke, you can go where other people won't be bothered by it.

I dont think they have that law here. People smoke right near entrances to building and when the door opens, all the smoke gets sucked inside of the room.

It's a law here. Some places it's a little more enforced. The restaurant I work at is connected to a hotel, so there is a lot of people that come and go by our front entrance. I remember one time there was this lady that was sitting in between the two doors in the little lobby smoking. I asked her politely to go outside, because guests were complaining, and she refused, saying it's cold.. And that's not right, etc. She was a complete b*tch about it too. So I called the cops. The fine is around $300. I felt bad for her, but her ignorance is what got her the ticket.

If you want to smoke, go ahead.. Just don't let it get in my face.

I don't smoke. I don't really hang around anyone that does. But, I'm not bothered to much with people smoking. I am glad that they don't allow smoking in any public building where I live.

Seeing as the smell is terrible and inhaling other people's smoke is unhealthy... smoking in public should stay illegal here in the UK.

Horrible.

I wish we had laws similar to Skillet's ones - I hate smoke, the smell of it makes me want to vomit. :S

Both of my parents smoke, and when they smoke in the vehicle they keep it close to a slightly opened window so that the smoke is taken outside. and if people are going to smoke outside, get out of the frigging doorway please. and people get really mad when they have to go outside... I knew this lady who would smoke in the only bathroom in the store my mom used to work at. it wasn't even cold outside! and the lady who owns the store has a son and a grandson who are very allergic to smoke. THe lady was very mad when they finally banned her from the store. It was kinda funny cause after that she called my mom the b*tch in the hat. (She wears a cowboy hat everywhere)

Food places don't allow smoking anymore...enclosed areas or something. But seriously, do it someplace else. You might be giving someone else cancer, and they're not even the ones smoking. I was once in a bus shelter with this businessman who was smoking, I asked him nicely to please step outside so that the other people wouldn't breathe in his fumes. I guess I just don't really like people in suits, but he didn't listen to me, so when I got to school, I stank of smoke.

Since my excuse sounded like an excuse, I had to pick up papers at lunch time. Not even my fault.

What a horrible man! It gets me mad when people say that younger people these days are a problem when it's clearly people of all ages who can have a bad attitude.

We have the same smoking law here in the UK as in Oz, no smoking in enclosed public and work places. So no smoking in pubs or nightclubs or restaurants, and it's banned inside work places, though most do have some kind of shelter for smokers outside.

Its very weird to me that there is no smoking in pubs or clubs. Restaurants I can understand but I find it so strange for it to be banned in pubs and I don't smoke!

Maybe in Oz they don't allow smoking in resaurants and other food services, but luckily, here in the States, we still have smoking and non smoking available almost everywhere.

I don't mind going outside if I have to, but obviously I prefer a smoking section over going outside in the winter.

No smoking anywhere inside in NY. Except in your own home. No smoking in bars or restaurants, hotels, offices. You can't even smoke on any of the school grounds. I can't stand the smell of smoke and thinks it's nasty. My ex smokes and I hope he gets lung cancer cuz he is a dickhead. My mom still smokes and I hate it when I leave her house and my clothes or coat smell like smoke. I have to Fabreeze everything after the kids have been there.

Some places there are city/county/local ordinances that prohibit smoking in restaurants..... Living in the middle of the Burley Belt we have places where these laws cause lots of conflict.

Where I live most parks have banned smoking. I mean it is still legal to smoke outside and it's also legal to smoke weed here too.

I'll be honest I smoke weed and sometimes when I go for walks, I'll light up a jay, though I tend to go on backroads where there isn't really anyone walking. In the past when I had a jay lit and I seen a family walking towards me I put out the joint. Smoking is my decision, and it shouldn't affect anyone else but me. I HATE the smell of cigarette smoke and hate when I'm walking, and someone puffs out their smoke right in my face. For those reasons I am always courteous when I am smoking and usually stick to smoking in my back yard and only when my neighbours kids aren't outside.

I think when people are in public they should be more aware that not everyone likes the smell of smoke and not everyone wants their kids or even themselves to be around smoke and we should be aware of when to light up and when we should just wait to smoke.

My opinion greatly differs from most people. I grew up in the early 90s, I spent countless time around my grandpa who smoked inside. Spent time around other adults who smoked inside. Hell, when my grandpa would watch me, he had a routine of going to this amazing little diner (which is still there today) and would sit in the smoking section. Do I disagree with banning smoking inside? Absolutely, especially if it's a bar or adult only establishment. However, what's done is done. I always laugh when people mention about banning smoking outside. That'll never happen. Instead it will be banned in specific public places, like parks. but even then, I don't see that becoming a standard.

I've never understood the hard on for hating cigarettes. No one has an issue with bars and drinking, but by golly smoking is where we draw the line! How dare you make the adult decision to do this to your life! I'm offended on behalf of you! So many are focusing on cigarettes, meanwhile, you have dumb fucks fighting back hard against EVs - which help our planet. Never mind all the other environmental shit, never mind harmful emissions, never mind the intense warming of our planet. Lets focus solely on how bad smoking is.

I truly am grateful to have been born during a time when there were candy cigarettes for kids and no one threw a karen fit because they realized people will make their own decisions.

What are your thoughts?

It is truly amazing how humans can feel that it is their right to force other humans to breathe whatever they are choosing to breathe, isn't it? I was once the same. As a teenager I used to smoke like a chimney until I became Christian. Later, when my religious fervor wore off and I attempted to resume, I suddenly developed a severe intolerance to the smoke.

Of course, that made me want to avoid it at all costs. But unfortunately, at that time, smoking was allowed everywhere, such as airplanes, elevators, classrooms, and at places of employment. So that severely limited where I could work.

Since I needed the money, I once stubbornly tried to tolerate the smoke by forcing myself to work at a place where smoking was going on, Result? My vocal chords swelled and I lost my voice. I had repeatedly requested a separate smoke-free room where I could work as a telemarketer in peace, but was denied. The manager considered me a finicky troublemaker. I was finally forced to leave. Sadly, my voice was permanently ruined by that effort.

Fortunately, now at least there are laws that restrict it.
