Topic I seen out there on the web somewhere:

We've all heard a few in our time. Now it's time to compile the ultimate list of musical robbery (be it accidental or just plain cheeky)

Ever notice that AC/DC's "Anything Goes" sounds eerily similar to "Born in the U.S.A" by Bruce Springsteen?

Or that Audioslave's "Cochise" reminds you of Led Zeppelin's "Whole Lotta Love"?

When Good Charlotte were writing "Beautiful Place" it's pretty obvious they were listenning to Coldplay's "Don't Panic" at the time and forgot that those lyrics already existed...

And when Guns n' Roses were thinking up "Paradise City" they maybe didn't have time to think of a riff and so borrowed one instead from Black Sabbath's "Zero the Hero"

But it's not like Sabbath are innocent either, subtly nicking the riff from Zeppelin's "Communication Breakdown" to make their sleeper hit "Paranoid"

Shame on M.I.A for making "Paper Planes" a rip off of the intro to "Straight to Hell" by The Clash!

Have you ever noticed this? Do you know of any more songs?

Perhaps the best example.

When Eric Carmen wrote his song in the early seventies he was directly thinking of what he thought was a classical piece from a couple of centuries before, and thusly in the public domain.

Well, no, sorry.

Rachmaninoff still had living family, who were quite surprised to hear his song on the radio.

But, it worked out well in the end, and Carmen's album notes included Sergei Rachmaninoff as 'co-author' and his estate received part of the royalties.

Mechanix by Megadeth and The Four Horsemen by Metallica also sound similar to each other. No, they're actually literally the same song would you believe it. Only difference between them are the tempo and lyrics.

But, there is an interesting fact of why they sound the same. This was because Dave Mustaine wrote Mechanix while he was Metallica's lead guitarist. After Mustaine was replaced with Kirk Hammett as the new lead guitarist, Metallica simply slowed down the tempo and rewrote the lyrics.

Someone else at another forum pointed that out, by the way.
