As a forum owner, would you allow your staff members to bully and harass people?

If this were going on how would you handle it?

I smack that staffer around and tell them that was a big nono.

Seriously though--no staffer has the right to pick fights with another person--whether staffer or community member. I know that staffers on these forums (for the most part) aren't paid positions, but staffers still need to act in a professional manner.

I agree. Even if the staff member was my friend, I would still try to talk some sense into the them, especially if its been happening over and over again. Or even demote them if that doesnt work. Otherwise it will only be a matter of time before that staff member chases everyone out of the forum.

Yeah the way they act reflects on the forum's overall image. Some forums lets people bully people around and all that does is scare people away.

I'd say Especially if the staff member is my friend. I tell you (and any others I've ever worked with) when I think they are being a jerk. (some were jerkier than others) lol. I wasn't hired for my great looks and sparkling personality alone. lol. I like to think it's because I try to be fair and do a good job.

I know too many staff members who are power hungry teenagers, out to abuse their privileges. Warnings, several warnings, discuss it one on one with the offender, if it all gets too embarrassing then demotion. It seems very hard for forum admins to demote their moderators for some reason, I guess it's because they're that close to them. Still, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Well i was a member on a huge forum once and the mods used to patrol like soldiers ready to shoot you down if you said one word out of place..Then one day they started bullying this old man who had lost his wife so i jumped in and defended him and got awarning letter so i told them where to shove it..

and i cleared off and so did my mate windy then they came after us demanding we return ..wont tell you what i think about that,

Hell No. The first time it happens, they will be banned. I wouldn't tolerate that crap from my members, and that would go double for my staff. I know it sounds harsh/strict, but I expect better of my staff than that.. and so, if I know that I wouldn't/shouldn't treat someone this way, then neither should they..

Absolutely not. I don't tolerate that from anyone. I've seen sites that allow this behavior to go on unpunished.

Same here

I have zero tolerance for bullying on any of my communities! I was bullied in school for something I have no control over, So why would I allow it on my communities? Staff found bullying any member whether it's in defense of another member or in a retaliatory manner will be automatically demoted and put on probation (Depending on their status in staff supermods or higher will be demoted)

I don't even tolerate that when I'm online or not. When I brought back my site last year, I ban that person for life telling me how to do my job.

Bullies turn me off to forums. I've yet to see a forum that doesn't have at least one set cliques that ends up being the bullies and usually it's the staff. I will say, i haven't seen that sort of behaviour here, YET. I'm hoping it remains that way, but human nature has a way of creating gangs of like minded individuals.

On the few forums i owned i saw bullying from staff and members. I sorted it but sadly on newer forums it can just take that one dildo to ruin it for many. Then you lose members quickly. It also depends on the age level of a forum too. And certainly the emotional maturity of everyone.

In the end i think it's just how much one is willing to tolerate.

No, absolutely not.
Staff, whether mods or admins, should represent the best of your board and bullying is a major no-no for me.

I am someone who is completely against bullying and if I ever found out that someone was bullying another, I would opt to not interact with their forum or want anything to do with them again.

I could never hire anyone who bullies either or has been known to make life difficult for others. Unfortunately, I have come across some people who bully where others can not see which I not only find awful but very unprofessional, most of the time they do it where others can not see because it becomes a case of he said she said.
