RIP Wal-Mart. Last time I visited Portland I stopped in one of those wal-marts to buy someone a birthday present and card.

Where are all the thieves going to go now?

Whole Foods?

Target

*looks around* @Dee, you're from that area; thoughts on the news above?

I heard about this. Uh.....why the hell didn't Wal-Mart do anything about this before it got this bad?

It's just a major retailer closing the ridiculous amount of stores they have open. What's news about that?

When Walmart moves into an area, usually there is a number of small retailers, locally owned shops, and smaller outlets that soon close.

Will those be coming back into Portland now that this one is gone?

I doubt it.

ngl it kind of is easy to steal from Walmart. when younger I used to steal the hot deli food like popcorn chicken, potato wedges, etc.

I used to work at one where I live. Mostly, Asset Protection won't detain and hold you for the police unless you get caught stealing over $500 dollars worth of product which will get you a misdemeanor. Anything above 1000 or more is a felony in most states.

I can promise you, those small businesses went out of business when Walmart came around. That specific area is NOT bustling with life.

They rarely close stores. Once they move into town, they are there to stay FOREVER! :evillaugh: :p

Anyway a lot of the Portland population are hippy environmentalist types. They want to shop at mom&pop places where things are locally made and sourced. No evil corporations, etc. At least thats the vibe I got when I was up there.

I mean, it used to be like that, but we have a LOT of people moving from different places who aren't used to that. I'm not from here and I don't mind shopping at some big box stores. I don't mind shopping at mom and pop places either.

Thats true, I know a couple people who moved up there.

I guess Portland is really really really bad.
Sounds a lot like a "sister city" to Seattle.
Not sure the 'statistics' have really improved any; but I will say that I do think the new mayor is trying his best to turn things around.

I know someone who lives there, its a nice city. You can find all sorts of articles talking about fucked up San Francisco but when you actually go there IRL its not so bad. I suppose I am just used to seeing the bad things and turning a blind eye though.

Yeah; we get the Seattle news channels and the same stories go on daily there. Well, I don't think Walmart has pulled out yet. We used to go to Seattle for a couple of days once in a while for recreation & just to enjoy the place. Besides all of this stuff & the random freeway shootings & the insane traffic...NO More!
Oh yeah, this doc didn't even mention people smoking all kinds of recreational opioid junk on public transportation making the drivers sick. I imagine that must be going on in Portland too.

Public transit, the new drug den: what’s being done to keep you safe?
