By watching the video of what happened - especially the cellphone part - it'd be a massive shock if now-former Ofc. Slager isn't convicted of murder (or whatever lesser charge comes to mind) for two reasons: (1)there's no justification for shooting someone in the back w/a lethal weapon, especially when there's little evidence the suspect had a weapon - and FWIW, I think whatever weapon Mr. Scott had was
planted by Ofc. Slager, and (2)
under the fleeing felon rule (a/k/a Tenn. v. Garner), deadly force "may not be used unless necessary to prevent the escape and the officer has probable cause to believe that the suspect poses a significant threat of death or serious bodily harm to the officer or others", quoting Justice White's opinion. Now, tell me,
what significant risk of death does someone pose running from an officer for the sole crime of not having vehicle registration?
