Using Proboards in 2022?

I for sure have learned to just use XF the first time round for paid hosting or something else. Also didn't know that about Jcink at all, weird. Proboards does seem outdated by today's standards, and am surprised that they never changed it to have a new version or look different. Yep, I know forums are gonna be around. I hope something does happen on Facebook or Twitter which wakes the eyes of the sheep to realize those sites suck ass and forums are king.

I feel it'll take Facebook at least to shut down or do something very bad to convince folks forums are better. lol
Proboards are working on a v6 that is more modern looking, but they're so far behind the curve on their design and functionality that even v6 is going to launch looking dated.

I made a test board with v6, it's...yeah... https://talkbolton.boards.net/

Oh, looks meh. I am hoping to get a XF license someday and use that perhaps in the future.

Did they actually update the software or are they just putting a modern looking theme on their existing software?

It's an actual overhaul, just...not a fantastic one, lol. Now that they're owned by Vertical Scope I think that's going to be the last major update they offer, the rest will be shiny colours and "look what we did!" sort of things.

What’s vertical scope?

Do you remember when Internet Brands bought Jelsoft/vBulletin? Before that they were just a company that bought up as many auto-related forum sites as they could get their hands on to build their "network." Once they bought vBulletin, they converted every single one of them to vB, tailored vB to suit their needs and sort of screwed over the remaining vB customers with buggy, non-usable software. Vertical Scope is the same, they buy up every forum category they take an interest in, they tried to buy XF, but thankfully Kier and Mike had learned from what happened with Jelsoft and didn't sell, so they bought Proboards instead and now who knows what's going to happen to their "network" or to Proboards itself...

Ah, it always sucks when companies get bought out. If someone ever bought XF, I’d probably just leave the forum perpetually on its current software version and not upgrade to the buggy crap the new company would roll out.

I would do exactly the same!

Forums are definitely not as they once were I struggled to get Tech Observed off the ground to the point where I decided to merge it with this forum :D

I am thinking of starting Pulse Chattee back up on a completely fresh database and make it more music focused,

Even though they're not as active as they once were I still like them.

At least I can split my forum communities with the people I know on social media.

I was sad to see that The Admin Zone got bought by Threadloom. Recalled using TAZ around like 2010-2011ish and loving the forum there. I am back there and it just hasn't felt the same.
Definitely the best move all around. Some people will sell off their unneeded licenses for cheaper than a full license prices, so you could always look there for a deal!
yeep, plan on that

Same, I was part of the Review Team there, it was great back then, a lot of fun...now? Totally different vibe.
yeep, plan on that
The best way :)
