vBulletin

I recall using them and visiting them back in 2008 and I think all of the changes happened more and more after the selling of the platform from Jelsoft to internet brands. Granted I don't think the decline happened right away. I base that on knowing how companies do so good then they get to a certain point then change hands/ownership then things start falling apart I see that more times than not, I'm not saying that neither of the companies could make or break the platform. Its just the patterns I have seen companies go through because no 1 person/company do anything the same as the original creator.

It does suck to see things that we know and love fail. But at the end of the day its just business and they are in it to make the buck, I am also not saying forget them and move along but it does disappoint a lot of people when they have used something that works for so long and things get changed or the quality is no longer there that it once was.

Or on the flip side it could have been already declining and the new companies attempts the revive it have been failing due to the industry competition has been threatened due to the thinning number of forum based user base has declined vs early 90s-2000s. No telling whats going on behind the closed doors.

Yeah everyone switched over from vBulletin to Xenforo. Why was that? I believe there were more third party add-ons? Is that why?

How was customer support with vBulletin btw? I hope not as bad as ppl say about XF.
I think IMO with the things going on with VB and their lack to branch out as far as closed development with exception of their developers only as far as plugins and what not def makes or breaks a platform and when VB 3.8 and before was going strong XF and IPB were in their beginning stages if i recall. For VB being around for so long i think they got greedy and think they are untouchable and thats how a lot of them fail due to the cockiness. I see them fading slowly in the next 5-10 years if that.

I quit VB years ago It was good in its prime but i feel they are at the point of "No return"

On that note I did run into this article with VB VS Xenforo https://www.theregister.com/2011/05/22/vbulletin_abandons_motion_for_injuction_against_former_devs/

I was a big vB user in the 3.x.x days. I had a license too. My other forum (OT) was on vB for a while way back in the day.
I loved them days they seemed to care about their customers and handle the support side fairly well if they weren't handling Nulled software issues :).. I plead the fifth on that topic hehehe...

I liked them alot back in the 3.x and even 4.x days.. However they are just kinda mid nowadays.

You don't really hear about nulled software much these days :|

I am sure people are still doing it though.
