I've come across this discussion quite a bit, which is interesting to me because I don't agree with what some people say about writer's block not existing. I know for a fact that it exists as I am still dealing with it to this day, but I wonder what your guys' opinion is on it. Does writer's block exist or is it just a joke?
Does writer's block exist? Yes, it does.
How do you deal with it? I know we've had this conversation before, but the way I deal with it is to just keep writing...
I know I've said what I did for my writer's block (stopped writing), but I just find it interesting that some people don't think writer's block exists. These are people who have told me that they have never experienced it. That, to me, is like saying depression doesn't exist just because someone has never experienced it.
I haven't written anything for a long time (like a high school essay), but I remember sitting there staring at a blank piece of paper for hours and feeling like I wanted to bash my head into a wall. I can relate.

There's a lot of correlation between traumatic life experiences that bring on symptoms of depression, anxiety, etc and writer's block, but some people have been telling me that writer's block in and of itself due to writing and not because of outside forces hurting you in your life is non-existent. I still don't believe that, but I do believe that certain experiences can hurt your creativity and ability to do certain things.

writer's block does happen to the best of them, yes...
the only advice i can give you is to try to switch subjects to something that relates to you more or that you personally experienced... or find a topic that you really like and just go from there...

All of it, ideas, filling in the blanks, actually writing, fear, anxiety. I haven't written anything for over a year, so I'm not really looking for advice on how to solve it. But I've tried everything in the book.
instead of using paper, use your computer, sometimes it's easier to put words down while on the keyboard...
try typing anything that comes to use, after you have quite a few sentences, then you can try to put them together into paragraphs, in which, you can more easily fill in the blanks or add/edit...

I'm assuming what Dr meant was clearing your mind is very difficult if you haven't had practice, but I could be wrong. In any case, it is a bullshit thing to say to someone who's having difficulties.

Probably not a good idea. Drinking doesn't solve your problems, it just hides them from you for a while. Then you wake up the next day with all your problems intact, and a sore head for your troubles.
