A stand-your-ground law states that a person may use deadly force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of a threat, without an obligation to retreat first. In some cases, a person may use deadly force in public areas without a duty to retreat. Under these legal concepts, a person is justified in using deadly force in certain situations and the stand your ground law would be a defense or immunity to criminal charges and civil suit. The difference between immunity and a defense is that an immunity bars suit, charges, detention and arrest. A defense permits a plaintiff or the state to seek civil damages or a criminal conviction. More than half of the states in the United States have adopted the Castle doctrine, stating that a person has no duty to retreat when their home is attacked. Some states go a step further, removing the duty of retreat from any location. Stand Your Ground, Line In The Sand or No Duty To Retreat laws thus state that a person has no duty or other requirement to abandon a place in which he has a right to be, or to give up ground to an assailant. Under such laws, there is no duty to retreat from anywhere the defender may legally be.[sup][1][/sup] Other restrictions may still exist; when in public, a person must be carrying the firearm in a legal manner, whether concealed oropenly.

In my opinion this is going to be a hard one to prove any wrong-doing on the part of Mr. Zimmerman. I wasn't there so I have no idea what really happened that night. I do feel, however, that Mr. Zimmerman could have aimed to maim not to kill.

So, tell me, exactly how did the media incite this event:

NORTH MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Fourteen people have been shot and two are dead in what may be one of the worst mass shootings in South Florida history.

Andre had some connection to several South Florida gangs and some of those gang members were in attendance at his wake to pay their respects.

The commander said someone at the wake touched Andre’s body in the casket in a way that other gangs took as disrespectful. This led to an argument inside the funeral home which spilled out to the street.

Members of one gang retrieved an assault rifle and a handgun from a car and opened fire at other gang members in front of the funeral home, according to the CBS4 source.

O'Reilly then cut to a video of the civil rights activist's speech earlier in the week. This is not about self-defense. This is about a man deciding somebody, based on who he was, was a suspect and that he would take matters in his own hands, Sharpton said.
Sharpton said that if Zimmerman is not arrested in Trayvon's killing, he will call for an escalation in peaceful civil disobedience and economic sanctions, the Orlando Sentinel reported.

Sharpton would not say what would be done against the city of Sanford, Fla., specifically, the Sentinel reported. A march at 11 a.m. Saturday is scheduled in Sanford, where the killing occurred, and civil rights activist Jesse Jackson is expected to join Sharpton at the event.

Sharpton has, you know, a daily one-hour program on MSNBC and as I said has already found Zimmerman guilty on the air. Same thing with CNN commentator Roland Martin.

Clear to me who is behind inciting racial violence. Let me ask a dumb question: Would Sharpton and Jesse Jackson be reacting the same way if this were a white kid?

As for the media I disagree that they are putting a spin on the case. There are media ethics that all journalists should follow to present the material objectively. As expected, a story this controversial and political will draw a lot of attention. The media still has rules to follow (like any other job) by not convicting Zimmerman, nor giving any opinion on the issue. They are required to just report the news, unlike O’Reilly - whose job is made to provide his biased opinion.

I disagree of comparing a civil rights movement like the NAACP to a racist organization like the KKK or something. So where does that leave W.E.B Du Bois?

Apparently NBC got caught editing Zimmerman's 911 call to make him look racist. I guess if you can't find the facts you want then you just make them yourself is the way we do things now.

Apparently ABC has got an exclusive enhanced video of Zimmerman entering the police station the day he was arrested. They claim that there is marks on the back of his head that appear to be gashes which coincide with his argument that he was attacked by Trayvon. Up to this point, we had nothing that suggested Zimmerman was attacked at all.

NBC News has fired a producer involved in broadcasting an edited version of a 911 call in which George Zimmerman appears to racially profile Trayvon Martin before shooting him.

The employee was reportedly fired on Thursday after NBC was forced to apologize over the misleading segment on its flagship 'Today' show.

The network had launched an internal investigation into the audio clip which had omitted the dispatcher's questions and taken the shooter's comments out of context.

The Miami-based producer who had worked at NBC for several years, was not named, according to the New York Times report based on two sources.

'During our investigation it became evident that there was an error made in the production process that we deeply regret,' NBC News representative Lauren Kapp said in a statement on Tuesday.

The Today show's segment aired on March 27, which included an ellipsis on screen to indicate omitted text, ran as:

Zimmerman: 'This guy looks like he's up to no good ...'

Zimmerman: 'He looks black.'

The full conversation ran as:

Zimmerman: 'This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something. It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about.'

Dispatcher: 'OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?'

Zimmerman: 'He looks black.'

Ever since the shooting, there has been a continuing debate about whether race was a factor in the incident with protests calling for the arrest of the shooter being held across the country.

The editing of the segment was first noticed by NewsBusters, an arm of the Media Research Center, a conservative media monitoring group, reports the Times.

Neo-Nazis who are ‘prepared’ for violence are conducting armed patrols in Sanford, Florida, in case a race riot ensues in the wake of the Trayvon Martin shooting.

Jeff Schoep, commander of the National Socialist Movement, said the gun-toting group is responding to the fear of white residents following the death of the black teenager, who was shot by neighbourhood watch volunteer George Zimmerman on February 26.

‘We are not the type of white people who are going to be walked all over,’ he told the Miami New Times.

Armed: Members of the National Socialist Movement, who are now present in Sanford, Florida, during a patrol on the US-Mexico border in January.

But Schoep, whose neo-Nazi group is based in Detroit, said that the presence of the 10 to 20 armed volunteers is not an attempt to incite racial violence - but to prevent it.‘We are not advocating any type of violence or attacks on anybody, but we are prepared for it,’ he said.

‘You can either be prepared or you can be blindsided,’ he added. ‘This way, if something were to touch off a race riot, we'd already be in the area.'

Schoep said that measures by groups like the New Black Panther Party, who offered a $10,000 bounty for the ‘capture’ of George Zimmerman, is a sign that ‘the possibility of further racial violence... is brimming over like a powder keg ready to explode into the streets.’

But he said the government has double standards when it comes to the two racial separatist groups.

'If we called for a bounty on someone's head, I guarantee we'd be locked up as quick as I could walk out of my house,' Schoep said.

He added that the group's purpose is to show solidarity with the local white community and not to take sides in the case.

'That's for the courts to decide,' he said, adding: 'I think there is some confusion going on.'

'A lot of people think that this guy who shot Trayvon was white... but he's half Hispanic or Cuban or something. He certainly doesn't look white to me.'

Who the hell asked them to get involved in this? There's going to war there soon and I feel bad any people living in this area.

He should request trial by judge.

Juries respond emotionally, and all the prosecution would have to do is wave around the picture of Martin that the media was using, when he was a twelve year old kid (instead of the 17 year old gangster wanna be from his online accounts), and Zimmerman would be found guilty.

Peers like this?

As a community activist and chief of staff for the New Black Panther Party Michelle Williams... .... said during that interview, Let me tell you, the things that's about to happen, to these honkeys, these crackers, these pigs, these pink people, these ---- people. It has been long overdue. My prize right now this evening ... is gonna be the bounty, the arrest, dead or alive, for George Zimmerman. You feel me?
