General Wrestling Discussion Thread

Yes, and WWE and TNA have a partnership now.

You hear Shane McMahon is trying to get through the AEW front door?
Rumors state that Shane, and Vince, want to buy AEW.

also, been rumors that WWE going to bring back WCW, and ECW.
Shane wants to work for them, Vince is never coming back and WWE isn't trying to bring back WCW and ECW lol. The "Who Killed WCW" thing wasnt associated with WWE in anyway.
WCW did plenty of shit to bankrupt themselves; WWE didn't have to do a damn thing (well, other than not f-up the Invasion angle; had Vince swallowed his pride he could've ran with that angle for years).

And Vince, by the way, did want to bring back WCW - well, WCW Nitro anyway - and the networks told him "Over our dead bodies will it return."

Konnan's a Vince Russo-level shit-stirrer.

No way in hell WWE buys out TNA because WWE under Trips recognizes something Vince Jr. never did - that at some point, you've got to give something back to the wrestling business and the best way to do that in the modern era is to help other national promotions every so often.

No, I mean now. We all know he was thinking of turning Raw into Nitro for a short period of time. But people on social media were thinking that they were gonna bring it back because of the Netflix deal.

Thank you for the correction.
WWE's still not bringing back WCW; that ship has long sailed...

As much as I love to slag Billy Corgan at times (NWA Samhain, anyone?) he's spot-on dead right about Tony Khan's favorite jerkoff partner, Uncle Dave Meltzer....

Extremely sad that wrestling has gotten to a point where all the names I grew up with are retiring or simply not seen as much. I don't know who any of the new faces are, I lost interest in wrestling several years back.

Remind me again how AEW is a serious promotion and not glorified indy outlaw mudshow wrestling.....

Nice to see Plumber Mozley and his garbage back again.....

Recent rumors suggest Shane McMahon could be eyeing an AEW debut. To add fuel to those rumors, controversial former WWE and WCW writer Vince Russo now appears, who spoke to Sportskeeda Wrestlebinge and said that he believes there is an outside possibility that Vince McMahon will secretly collaborate with Shane McMahon to potentially take over AEW.

Russo said he believes the possible AEW acquisition would take place with Shane at the forefront, as it looks clean to the public, while Vince McMahon could be operating behind the scenes without anyone knowing.

"We saw this with WCW, it happened before." AEW purchase might be under Shane's costume, that's all I'm saying. Shane is as clean as a whistle. Vince could be behind without anyone knowing, brother," Russo said.
Vince Russo, is, as usual, full of shit.

For starters, Vince McMahon is currently toxic in the wrestling world; even if he somehow gets out from under Janel Grant's lawsuit (and the pending federal investigation into his actions) no wrestling promotion will touch him for fear of sponsor/commercial backlash. Secondly, for Russo to bring up WCW given his role in their demise is rich as hell for him to do; Russo is just as toxic as VKM is.

In addition, unlike WCW, AEW has two wild cards - Tony Khan and his father Shad Khan. Shad might not like the money he's lighting on fire for his son, but there's no way in hell he's letting VKM anywhere near his son's sandbox. Shane hasn't been relevant in terms of wrestling ownership in ages (that role squarely belongs to Stephanie McMahon) and I don't see any scenario at present that would allow for Russo's thoughts to become reality and furthermore, WWE's at a point in its life where they don't need to purchase other wrestling promotions; they may be the biggest promotion in wrestling but even they (especially in the post-VKM era) recognize how bad it would be for them to do to AEW what Vince Jr. did to WCW back in 2001.

*deadpans* Remember wrestling fans, Tony Khan would rather have Marko Stunt Dwarf Dong Sucker and Jack Perry Jungle Jackoff in his promotion than wrestlers like CM Punk, Jade Cargill, Stephanie Vaquer and who knows who else.... #AEWIsAParody

Yeah, Jon Moxley will not be getting Christmas cards from Jim Cornette.....

“Reviving WCW on Netflix? As much as I would hope and want, and I could get emotionally invested in WCW on Netflix, the reality is that we are 23 years removed from the brand being on television. The nWo still sells a boatload of merchandise, but WCW hasn’t sold, to my knowledge, much of anything. A couple of retro shirts here and there, something to that effect. I don’t see a tremendous value there, but with that being said, you own the IP, you own the library, and you have the ability to have multiple connective tissues, whether real relatives, and you have a throwback of a lineage that truly exists. There is a run of 83 weeks, you have all that kind of stuff.
Historically speaking, its important to remember WCW as they were the only truly competitive alternative to WWE (then-WWF) back in the 1990's. That said, Jarrett's right; it is 23+ years since the Monday Night Wars ended and there's no need to revive it.

What WWE can do is use their platform on Netflix to broadcast past WCW classic matches; in a sense, create a WWE Classics channel and air WCW there.

They had a WWE Classics channel and they killed it off because of the WWE Network. They cant use Netflix for anything else other than Raw until 2026 anyway.
If Haitch is smart, he'll revive it on WWE.com, then turn it into a streaming channel.
