Global Warming Update

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Sorry, the fact is that the UN bullied and threatened any scientist who dissented by telling them that they'd either have funding withheld or credientials withdrawn if they didn't sign.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Yes, it is a shame that the politicization of this issue by skeptics with no credentials whatsoever has lead to some actions being taken to remove deviant opinions. But that doesn't change the data, or the 97% consensus of climate scientists who believe that there is very strong compelling evidence for human-made climate change.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]
[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]And CLIMATE CHANGE has always been a reality. You cannot point to a geologically period of time where the global climate was stable.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]Well obviously.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]
[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]As to humans having an effect, if we did, why were China and India, with about half of the human population between them, exempt from the treaty, and when Russia said get lost the Global Warmers did.

[font=tahoma, helvetica, arial, sans-serif]I don't know, but I don't think the reason that human-made climate change is not occurring.

So my not being able to use the light bulb of my choice or to run drive a truck without paying a fuel surcharge is going to offset the efforts of the total population of those three countries?
I guess that would really depend on the light bulb...

Anyway, if everyone believes their actions won't help, you'd have an entire extra country on your hands polluting.

Dr Leftover has it right.

When they (whoever the hell they are) first came up with this idea about differing climate, it was global warming. Then it was global cooling. Then it was climate change.

People, the earth is cyclic. These changes in weather patterns and temperatures have been going on since the earth came to be. Cycles. They've been happening forever. This is just another cycle, and just because it is a bit different than the very brief history we have recorded does not make it some immanent doom. It is just another cycle, and as long as the planet exists, there will continue to be cycles like this.

Actually, climate change is the first term scientists used to describe what is going on.

What makes you think that you know better than 97% of climate scientists who believe that the data and evidence show that this is not just another cycle and that humans are having a dramatic impact on the climate of our planet?

This is equivalent of going to 100 doctors and 97 of the doctors telling you that you need to take a certain drug, or there will be dire consequences and 3 doctors (and maybe some radio hosts or evangelical christians) tell you that you don't need anything.

Are you really going to trust the 3 over the 97?

If the 97 are demonstrated to be wrong, yes.

At one time, party line was that the Earth was Flat, and square, with an angel standing at each corner holding up the sky.

Saying otherwise would get you in some serious trouble with the 97.

Oh well.

The world's greatest snow-capped peaks, which run in a chain from the Himalayas to Tian Shan on the border of China and Kyrgyzstan, have lost no ice over the last decade, new research shows.

The discovery has stunned scientists, who had believed that around 50bn tonnes of meltwater were being shed each year and not being replaced by new snowfall.

But in this case it is different because there is so much data and evidence supporting that human-influenced climate change is happening.

This wasn't the case for the world being flat.
