Lets pretend you are a police officer for this conversation.

What do you do when a close friend breaks the law?

Do you turn a blind eye or report them? What would be the circumstances for either choice?

that's why cops don't have many friends huh?

if i was a cop then i'd have to do my job...

i guess it could depend on what the crime was because as a cop you do give out just warnings to people for minor stuff... the police has that authority of picking and choosing...

Depends. If I'm off duty, and he's speeding a bit, I would probably turn a blind eye or--if it's excessive--tell him to slow the fuck down 'cause I may do something about it if he's putting his life at risk or endangering other people.

If it's something known to be illegal like doing or selling drugs, harming people, stealing, etc, I would probably either turn them in myself or alert them to authorities. A friend who gets pissed off for doing illegal things and then getting in trouble even after they were warned is not a true friend.

yeh if i was the law, id keep my district clean. Ridding of the bad sort. I would be an honest cop. Not taking bribes or embezzle police funds or steal from the evidence room like some corrupt cops do. I would adhere the motto, to protect and serve

Sounds like in a lot of places it's hard to do that. If you're an honest cop, which I'm quite sure there are plenty, you get your ass handed to you or you get shot down by the ones who are trying to cover up their dirty mess. Good luck with that, Anon! xD

speaking of corrupt cops..our sheriffs office had a small incident of a rookie cop stealing office supplies after hours.. thats a minor offense i think.. what you think?

Stealing is stealing no matter what it is. Yes, the circumstances can be different for everyone, but I think a cop makes enough on their salary to buy their own office supplies. xD

how bout other cops lunches ha ha.

Now that just calls for an arrest! You don't ever steal anyone else's lunch. xD Not unless you're replacing it with something much, much better.

Yeah, they make a bundle of money for risking their lives every day, eh? :s

The average salary for a Police or Sheriff's Patrol Officer is $45,916 per year. Experience has a moderate effect on pay for this job.

Oh, I know they don't make that much, Jazzy. Definitely they are underpaid in many respects and my hats go off to them for putting their lives on the line every day out there on the job!

The pay depends on the jurisdiction.

An officer I know who works in the small town where we live now is PART TIME, and works on his off days for a concrete firm to make ends meet.

However, the State Police in the state where we used to live could pull down $75K after a few years.

So speeding isn't illegal?

I would report the person either way. It is not worth putting my job on the line.

Once they broke the law, they made a conscious decision to void our friendship. They would be dealt will appropriately in regards to which law they broke.

cops rarely lose their job for murdering americans yet you think the police department will fire their officers for not choosing to write someone a ticket when they don't necessarily have to... it's sad that cops not just have more authority over the public/citizens, but they have more rights and protection... let alone they may pick and choose to enforce the law to, and the potential of corruption, misconduct, abusing, lying, thieving, raping, murdering, etc... it's been proven time and time around that some of the worst crimes happen by a cop or a government/military official...
