Living With Your Parents

I only get on my computer for a couple hours in the evenings, I couldn't imagine being on here all day for a job too. I'd probably get really bad migraines and eye issues after a while.
I definitely did, lol, but it was a good paying job and I was decent at it.

I was a programmer who did web development as a part of that job, I got benefits. I THINK they're pretty common for web devs in general.
Was it a small or larger company you worked for?

I started on $67k as a junior, was on almost $75 when it ended, but the upper end, had I stayed longer, were making 100+
Now, this is another reason I want to be a web developer! :D

Invite me over to your mansions when you get back into it. :D

That's why I started, well, not for the income, but because I'm crap at most things, but had a knack for development.
Yeah, I was desperate to learn JavaScript when I started learning more about HTML and CSS. Then jQuery came along and I started to learn JavaScript much easier through the use of jQuery.

Pfft, mansions? I'm buying Arizona itself and making it an LGBTQ haven.

Put a roof over the whole state and an AC unit every 10 feet on said roof.

:D

Yep, that's the way to do it. Learn the basics then get into the more advanced stuff. Python, Go, Ruby, Java...all languages worth knowing.

Yep, definitely need proper AC :D

This sounds similar to my situation. I'm not sure if I'll ever not live with my parents. I have no desire to live alone, I don't believe in true love all that much to be with an SO, and financially speaking, I just couldn't handle it. I feel like the least experienced adult in the world sometimes, and I'll primarily have to depend on my sibling's help when my parents pass. A parent's passing is devastating when you've bonded all of your life and treated each other well, I don't know what I'll do when it happens.
Me either. I likely will never live alone either. I think when my parents pass I'd assume the house would be paid off or something. I could possibly see about getting into housing as I only collect SSDI and they go based off your income. As long as I get Internet I am fine tbh. I don't need cable or anything as I could just perhaps consider subbing to YouTube TV or so.

I don't know if I'll dwell that deep into programming considering my goal would be to become a front-end web developer.

My big concern is just not having the life skills to take care of myself. I have a sister that lives out of state that is probably quite experienced and can help me when my parents pass on, but I just don't know how far I'll get without knowing such little life skills.

I'd start with learning a language that's nice and straight-forward for preprocessing and things like that, PHP being a decent starting point. Then you can work on things that will help expand your resume. Python or Go. They'll help you get into web dev quite nicely :)

Life skills you can easily learn, it just takes time and practice. You will get there :)

What do you think you would struggle with? A bill comes, you pay it. You need food, you buy it. If you're really sick or injured, you go to the doctor. It's all common sense stuff. You'd be fine :friends:
