Should all crimes be equally punishable?

I hope we can build a culture where women are not afraid to speak out as victims of rape, in all industries and workplaces.

Still a way to go, it seems 😡😩 !

Following on from our convo on domestic abuse, this is an incredibly sad read @Black Angel :( !

Unfortunately as men are the primary perpetrators of both, and the practice seems to be covered in lampoonish ways that often shield the typical perpetrators when it comes to employee training to prevent this, I seriously doubt that this will happen in our lifetime.. and that is largely because no one takes this seriously until it happens to them or someone that they know.

But in all truth this exists in all industries and is usually a factor in why someone's once promising career has all been stopped short and they disappeared. It is because they either refused to sleep with someone, or did and were then paid to stay silent due to other consequences.. this is unfortunately what can be expected when there is a radical imbalance of power.. and a surrounding environment that supports it..

and things like porn (not blaming porn here, but it is a factor as it puts the idea in people's heads just as it does other fantasies..) where these situations happen all the time (even though porn isnt real as it is fantasy) can cause those who can't (or won't) differentiate between reality and fantasy to enter these industries looking for an opportunity to recreate what they saw in their favorite XXX scene real life. I mean there have been women who went to the dentist for a routine checkup and then ended up being a SA victim.. and I wish I could say that this stopped there, but in reality it doesn't.

In all truth the only way this could happen in our lifetime is if more men step up to the plate as allies to women on this and many issues.. because then it would encourage other men who probably wanted to speak out in support but was afraid to do so, to do the same. Or cause other men to really think about it seriously.. and as something other than "typical female complaints."

I think that if more men got involved with speaking out against this, that it might do very well to build the culture that you want to see, in the same way it would with White people speaking out against racism and White supremacy, or Gen Z bucking the culture of a toxic work environment and culture that their parents and grandparents were often subject too.. Gen Z doesn't fuck around and I truly find that inspiring.

That said, I think that if more men got the idea in their head that there is nothing more manly than supporting women on this issue, especially as chances are every girl or woman in their life has gone through it, or will and ignoring those who say otherwise, then maybe then, we might see this change.. but I won't be holding my breath..

Especially with the anti-women laws on the rise in this and other countries.. a lot of those that support this, and support book bans are also against early sex ed and support child marriage.. if a child doesn't know what unwanted sexual contact or rape is or that it is wrong, then they won't or can't tell anyone what happened to them. This gives cover to both rapists and pedophiles and they get to escape the consequences for what they have done, by marrying the child they raped and they will never see jail because the law says that spouses can't be forced to testify against each other.

It's worse, because most child marriages are not a Romeo and Juliet situation involving teens close in age, but rather older men and children.. the ones usually sold by the parents for money and the worse part is, that child has no choice but to stay married because the law says that the child is too young to enter a contract even if it is for divorce.. so a 13 year old girl could be married to a 50+ year old man, and be repeatedly raped and beaten and forced to have his kids but wont be able to seek a divorce until she is 18.. that is, if she survives that long.

I agree that we cannot punish all crimes equally as it depends on the circumstances. But I believe that juveniles of a certain age should be punished as an adult would because by then they know right from wrong.

What age would you say?

Do you think ppl known to celebrate kurdish events should be stopped and questioned at airports?

Personally? I find this to be an unnecessary interrogation, as those with bad intentions are unlikely to disclose the truth lol

12 would be my suggestion.
Sounds reasonable to me; although, I have known of five and seven year old 'babies' who have performed some dastardly deeds.
But I guess that they could not be treated as adults.

However, I do think that a case has been made that psychopaths are born and not made. So, maybe when discovered early on some kids should/could be supervised for life instead of automatically being turned loose at 18 to 'do it again'.

Psychopaths like Russel Brand. Oh, except he was an adult at the time.

I hope something is done to encourage ppl to come forward about abuse by celebrities or those enjoying their fame. Everyone should be held accountable to the law, no matter the status.

People with learning difficulties fair enough. They should be exempt.

@Black Angel another allegation of racial profiling.

Cher hired men to kidnap his own son from a hotel room, during divorce proceedings with his wife

How can you wish this upon your own child???

A black girl excluded from the medals. I can’t believe this happened in Ireland, and as a smack in the face, they attempt to cover up the racism claiming it was a mistake. I hope this would be punished, but not holding my breath. @Black Angel this sill be of interest to you

Well, the guy clearly has mental issues using Star Wars as justification to go kill the queen, but that’s no excuse.

Personally? I don’t believe in the monarchy having privilege especially given they’re not elected, the punishment should be the same for everyone. Therefore I don’t believe in treason as a reason. What’s yiur view on this?

True true, never considered that foolishly 🤣

But also celebrities drive the economy so I reckon it’s a political gamble too really

In Canada they're constantly whining our native Indians make up the majority of people in prisons. Where I live when you read about a crime in the news and come across the names they are more often than not Indian. When they go to court the lawyer's name is usually the same too. "Public Defender." Getting a good lawyer doesn't mean a person is innocent, it only means they hired a good "Liar" who doesn't have to tell the "truth, the whole truth and nothing but the truth."

Oh yes and smartarse at finding loopholes in the law !

I also think the strict timelines for coming forward means victims of sexual abuse aren’t ready to come forward in time, sadly.
