Do the politics of another country affect your life in any way?

Is it important to keep up on them?

I'd say we need to pay attention to the major economies in the world (China, Japan, Russia, Germany, UK, India, etc). What they do effects us directly.

Yep, politics in other countries can have a massive impact as the world is incredibly interconnected now. This is not entirely new, as the world system has had an impact on national and local politics for centuries now. However the speed at which it happens now is vastly quicker. The time it took for the financial crisis to reach different countries could be measured in minutes.

You think the internet has anything to do with how connected the globe is these days?

They don't have any impact on my life, but I enjoy reading the news and often keep up to date with what's going on.

Not directly, no, but just as we don't live in a vacuum, countries don't exist by themselves. What we do here in America, for instance, does have an effect elsewhere.

Yes, the politics of other countries do affect our lives; and interesting to keep up with them. But I'm thinking that may not be so important because I really don't think we need to or should be so involved. We are, in fact, the "Ugly Americans" when we try to tell other sovereign nations what sort of government they SHOULD have, and try to, and do influence those decisions. Like we are the only ones in the world who know how things should be done. :ROFLMAO:
I think we need to perfect ourselves before we go around telling others how to do it; and we seem to be far from setting the perfect example.

Winston Churchill said it best (paraphrasing): "Americans will always do the right thing after doing everything else first."

Well, it's about time we GOT WITH IT!

Makes sense. But what about if North Korea bombed us with a long range nuclear bomb? Would you feel any different?
